Googling MLB top free agent lists had Jameson Taillon ranked 20, 37 ,32. Cody Bellinger didn't crack the top 50 in one list. He didn't even make honorable mention Of scrubs on one list. Correa to Giants really puts Hoyer's back up against the wall. Left Swanson is a Hoerner clone with more slug. Hoyer's bs-ing skills will be tested like never before.

Do you think that 13/350 (nearly double Heyward's contract in both length and money) with a full no-trade is a sound business decision? It is up there with the Brent Seabrook contract.

He will never play the last 3 years of that deal. It's essentially a 9-10 year deal for 350. And yes the Cubs are cheap

I think the problem to the Cubs 2nd rebuild FA strategy is how late to the party they are on stars. Now Hoyer is in a unenviable position. I'm not a fan of overextending and overpaying. But with the Cubs history of poor drafting they're behind the 8-ball. They're in danger of becoming like the Reds and Pirates if the position player prospects flop. It'll be great radio if Jed's strategy is critiqued and analyzed where they are, options from here, successes, and mistakes he's made

I guess Boras decided that SF was a better fit for Correa as a person.

I'm just glad the Ricketts saved all that money. Their bottom line is going to look really good this year.

I am in no position to talk with the Sox doing noting. That said it is funny to me that Cub fans think they are real close to bring in a monster contract and waltz to the playoffs. They are not.

For that kind of deal SF can have him. This Cubs team isn't ready for that kind of long-term commitment to any one player. Let the kids play.

These prices are too high! I don't think the Cubs should sign a free agent ever again!

I still don't understand why Cubs fans think spending a crazy amount of money on one or two players is the right move here. Until they have three or four blue chip prospects ready to come up to the major leagues what's the point?

I guess the Cubs will have a chance in about six years when all these crazy long term deals leave the big spenders with a bunch of mid-30’s guys who suck. Until then, we can all wonder how many players on the Cubs roster could start on a playoff team, one or none?

I didn't say that - but the roster they have isnt close enough to being playoff competitive to start adding those kinds of pieces. Sure, Correa would be an improvement but he isnt going to make them legitimate playoff contenders.

The Cubs won 74 games last year. Correa would have probably got them 80-81 wins. Now imagine if they further opened the pocket book and signed Verlander for 3 years. You are looking at 84-85 wins. The Phillies won 87 and made to the World Series.

Bob would be the first one bitching if the Cubs signed him to a 13 yr deal.

The Cubs are a top 5 revenue team operating like a bottom feeder.

I am in agreement they need to spend money. I wanted them to sign Correa

But we all know if they signed him to a 13 yr deal you would be bitching quickly. First 3 strikeout game you would proclaim him a bust and bitch that the Cubs did something stupid.

Its a Bob thing.

These are the moves of a team that is one or two players away. The Cubs need an entire roster. Long, high AAV contracts hamstring a team with the punitive luxury tax.

that is a ridiculous premise. break the bank to try to win 85 games because some team won 87 once and made the world series? this team is not close to a world series even with correa and hypothetical verlander. they need to grow same talent.

If they signed Correa they still wouldn't have been near the Tax. That portfolio of Ricketts is looking really good though...

All this non signing does is save us from 13 years of Bob complaining about the contract.

Again you idiots realize he will never play the 13 years of that contract right? So it was about 8 years for 350 million, with the last 4-5 bought out. The Cubs could certainly afford that.

As for "let the kids play", what fucking prospects? The only infield prospect they have is still in rookie ball...

It’s mildly amusing that Sox fans are still upset Reinsdorf over Machado (or the non-existent Machado money) while Cubs fans are mostly concerned with Ricketts’ bank account.
