Saying the Cubs shouldn’t make a big signing because they are years away would have been the same mentality for the Giants. They have no chance in that division.

We will see how it works out for them.

Watch the Cubs try to save face, outbid everybody, and give career 738 ops Swanson a massive contract.

The Cubs current payroll is at 134 million

The Luxury Tax 230 million

For those of you here that struggle with math, that gives the Cubs nearly a 100 million per year wiggle room to work with, they could have gone after Correa and then one of Rodon/DeGrom/Verlander and then someone to replace Contreras like Vaszquez and been around 85-88 wins. They chose not to compete. But continue to praise the Ricketts for being "fiscally responsible" as they win 76 games this year.

Only the meathead Cub fans think we are close. They never answered the question if they rather have had Heyward or waited a year to get Machado and or Harper.

Jean Segura has the same career OPS, has a track record of being a consistent 2-4 WAR guy, except he broke his finger last year and missed half the season. He will probably cost a quarter of what Swanson will in total, but on a 3 year deal.

There are three groups of meathead fans:

1. The group who hates Ricketts because he is anti-woke and rich (Sara Sanchez at BCB is the DiCaro-esque figurehead of that group)
2. The group who believe that sports teams are public trusts and that owners should spend desperately, but also somehow didn't think that Mark Cuban should have been allowed to buy the Cubs regardless of what Jerry Reinsdorf wanted.
3. People who hate math and analytics and call those who understand those concept "nerds" or "cucks."

There are also the idiot fans that obsess and worry over the Rickett's financial health. 425 million in annual revenues and a payroll around 120 million, something doesn't add up.

Well they have to pay for buying up all of Wrigleyville somehow...

That's been long paid for. They also cashed out about a billion in equity of the 3.8 they are worth. It's cute people still buy the "Ricketts are poor" line though..that's what they are hoping.

Correa has made an all-star team twice in eight years. Amazing.

Also heard this morning that SF’s odds to win the WS didn’t budge from 40-1. But when they were thought to be close to landing Judge, their odds went to 25-1.

I don't think he is poor at all. I just don't fit into any of the three meatball groups.

I don't have a problem with the market, I have a problem with aggressively attacking it at this stage with the team as it is currently constructed. "SPEND ALL THE MONEY SPEND ALL THE MONEY" for one or two players isn't the cure-all you think it is. This team isn't close enough to go for it in a big way.

I don't buy he is poor. My point of view is simple. Would I pay these guys if I had Rickett's money and owned the Cubs. No, it is not a good baseball signing.

This is superstar money and Correa and Swanson are not superstars. You better be a mthfking hitting 45hrs, 300 ave 100rbi gold glove winning player to deserve 13yr 350MIL!

Having a bottom feeding payroll isn't the solution either

Which is my point. Judge worth the money but Correa and Swanson. No way!

Correa+DeGrom or Verlander+Vaszquez and this team would have competed for the division in 2023

This team isn't a couple free agents away from winning a world series. This team needs to start building from within before they start shelling out blockbuster deals.

and lost in the playoffs and been worse off for it in the long run.

I'll settle for just getting in and taking my chances from there, it worked for the Phillies.

im not hating on Carlos Correa, hes good and an obvious improvement. He is not taking this team to the world series.

Right, Correa, not a guy who plays for teams that do well in the playoffs.

Correa is going into the HoF, not sure if you consider that a superstar or not, but that's where he is going to end up.

That's a stupid argument. In baseball no single player can take a team to a world series, not even Mike Trout. Still the Cubs should spend money to try and acquire better players.

Again may I ask why are you so concerned with Tom Rickett's financial well being?
