were you on the Jane Addams 94 by O'hare? I swear that's the one expressway where extensive work was done (took several years) but it is significantly better, and I would argue the best stretch of highway in the Chicago area...often 5 lanes wide, great lighting, nice sight lines...

WHAT...South to southwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. Gusts higher than 60 mph are possible if not likely for some locations.

WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

WHEN...From 4 AM to 7 PM CDT Saturday.

IMPACTS...Prepare for downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Unsecured objects such as decorations and lawn furniture may blow away.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Downed tree branches capable of taking down some vulnerable power lines appear the greatest threat--though high-profile vehicles may encounter problems, particularly traveling on east/west thoroughfares when powerful south then southwest winds hit the vehicles at a perpendicular angle.
In addition, objects not secured--such as lawn furniture, may be vulnerable to the wind as well.

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Conrad on WGN this morning admitted that the models are all over the place for Thursday. His 3 day out guess was that someplace in the midwest will get a lot of snow.....

They always give the worse case forecast because they're scared to be caught with their pants down. I'd say there's an 80% chance we don't "have a doozy".

I am seeing 12 to 18 inches up here between Thursday and Friday.

Do you snowmobile? I am fired up and ready to go but won’t be home 12/20-12/26…..we may get our trails open next weekend.

⚠️SIGNIFICANT, POTENTIALLY CRIPPLING WINTER STORM THREATENS PARTS OF OUR AREA THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.

Friends, this is an early heads up. We're closely monitoring the potential for a dangerous winter storm that could not only bring hefty snow accumulations, but also the potential for blizzard conditions followed by brutally cold temperatures Christmas weekend. This is likely to cause significant disruptions to air and ground travel if current projections prove to be correct. The storm in question is still 4-5 days away and the exact storm track is not carved in stone. This is an early warning for anyone with travel plans later Thursday into Friday. You may want to consider alternate plans. I'll be able provide more details in the days ahead. Regardless of the storm's track, high winds and bitter cold appears to be likely if not definite for the region.

Confidence continues to steadily increase that a potentially crippling blizzard could impact portions of the region later this week, the timing of which couldnt be worse for holiday travel.
If, and how severely, our forecast area (CWA) will be impacted depend on the exact track of the cyclone and to some extent the magnitude and timing of the forecast rapid deepening. At the current time, the worst conditions for the Chicago metro area appears to be Thursday late afternoon/evening into Friday evening. Updates will be provided as information is gathered.

Generally, this is a correct statement. And it is still too far away to get an accurate forecast. With that being said, all the major models are coming into agreement that this could be a doozy.

When this is all over, which is not going to be for a while, Trump will be re-elected President.

All I have seen and heard is we are supposed to have a blizzard which is defined as, winds must be sustained at 35 miles per hour; the snow must reduce visibility by a quarter mile or less; and the conditions must be expected to last for at least three hours.. In other words, big-time blowing snow.

Maybe I have missed it but so far I have seen no specific accumulation predictions. Until I do I refuse to PANIC.
