computer models are still not decided is what it looks like to me. I know the guys out here are saying the models show anywhere from 2 inches to 14 for this area and are hoping for the next run to firm up tonight/tomorrow morning.

I'm with Nardi on this. I think they are giving "worst case" projections because they know a ton of people will be traveling on Thursday-Saturday and don't want to get caught with their drawers down

If it hits then they can always do the "don't say I didn't warn you thing" afterwards

The "worst case scenario" happens a good portion of the time. It's just a question of which area gets it.

If the storm goes north and the town 200 miles north of you gets 24 inches but then you go outside and say "Only 5 inches. Stupid weatherman!" is it really true?

I'm flying into Midway on Saturday night. The snow should be done by then but Southwest has been a clusterfuck the last few years. I'm hoping that they offer a great big reward for taking a voluntary bump so that people cancelled out on Thursday and Friday can get on. I love my extended family but I just saw them a month ago and a $500 travel voucher would persuade me that I didn't need to endure sub zero wind chills to see them.

I don't think it's really 50/50 any more that this is going to be a pretty terrible storm for travel. If I had a flight on Friday or Saturday and I could change it I would.

I'm traveling into town tomorrow but have two things planned for Thursday. I am guessing the first one will be sparsely attended, if not canceled altogether. The second, which is where I am staying, hard to say. At least we have enough alcohol to get us through.

Well, yeah. But I wouldn't cancel a social event or business just yet. It's ok not to cancel something 3 days in advance. It's not like you can make alternate plans. You're either socked in or you're not. Why the need for impatience?

The weathermen have been on this storm for over a week. Every indiction is coming together that says this storm is going to be awful.

Chicago might get 5" or 15" of snow, but the cold and wind is going to be something we have rarely seen here.
