Poor Webber.

The guy comes on here with good intentions. We basically tell him Larry and Hamp sucks and there is nothing he can do. We'll probably never hear from Webber again. He's shell shocked after reading us.

You think Webber is gonna go to Larry or Hamp and tell him any of our thoughts? Hell no. He doesn't have the heart to relay these thoughts. Especially not mine. Doesn't matter. Larry reads the board anyway. Larry thinks he's God's gift to radio. He probably just casts away our thoughts and thinks of us as SOB crackers anyway. "What are they talking about? I'm Larry. I'm great." Pulse won't go away. Larry thinks that's the greatest segment in radio.

Don't worry Webber. All you can do is come up with a good open. After that it's out of your hands. It's Larry and Hamp. It's bad. You can't change their personalities. You can't fix Hampton's stutter. You can't make the words, he so desperately seeks, come to his brain. Can't do anything about Larry's phony style. Can't make Larry not be weird. That's the problem.

I'll make you a deal, Webby. One juicy North story in exchange for two constructive ideas. Five constructive ideas for two stories in one post. You first.

Poor posters on this board who have nothing good to say about Laurence (I know you guys are all immature and refuse to call him by his given name). I bet most of you are one of those bad callers who didnt have an original thought and Laurence hang up on you so you have had it in for him since. I have one question for you guys, if you hate him so much why do you keep listening? And don't tell me you don't because every time I browse this site every person pretty much has the transcripts (from Burrelle's of course) of the Hamp and Holmes show.

Full disclosure, I am one of the producers at the Score so you can start bashing me also (after you spend 2 months figuring out which one I am)

Full Disclosure - I have listened to Larry. Not the "Hamp and Homes" show. I can't. I'd throw his night show on sometimes. Heard him when he would sub for Terry. Cuz it was funny to hear him repeat Bernsie. Sometimes Bernsie would bitch slap Larry after his stupid thoughts. Plus, I like Bernsie so Larry wasn't gonna make me not listen. He was on so infrequently and I like sports radio. So it's not tough to get me to listen. I tried to give him a shot. But he's just a phony jack ass. Then it would reach the point where I listened to see what stupid things he would say. But never for too long.

Doesn't mean Larry is not a phony and a jack ass just cuz I listened. Immature cuz I call him Larry? Ok. Fine. What the hell? It's not the worst thing in the world. I'm sure his family and friends call him worse.

He's bad at radio. I like to do parodies. It can be mean. But that's what makes them funny. I think I capture him quite well actually.

It's easy for you to say that we're just pissed off callers that Larry has hung up on. That's probably what Larry tells you about people who don't like him. You buy it. Cuz nobody at the Score can be criticized, right? I never call radio shows. Larry is probably your buddy so you have to blindly defend him. Never mind, in some of our stinging commentary about Larry, we actually have valid points. Just pissed off callers that Larry has hung up on. Yeah. Cuz nobody on the radio is an ass hole, right?

I won't spend 2 months figuring out who you are. Don't flatter yourself. Nobody cares who you are. You think too much of yourself by telling us you are a producer without giving us your name anyway.

Very good Beardown; all I can add to paleposer23 is: If you're such a big man/bad ass: Show Yourself!
Otherwise - as Coach Ditka says - your problem just may be The Man In The Mirror.
Finally - as The Who says: Can you see the real me? Can ya? Can ya? David Ochal, Aurora.

I will play "who am I". I have two guesses.

Whoever you are, its a message board, I think we are are open to give our thoughts on whatever we want to talk about. Laurence has to take what he dishes out.

I'm immature for many, many reasons but not because I'm too lazy to type Laurence instead of the easier to spell Larry. Also, I did have good things to say when I posted about feeling bad for him having to sit next to Daniel Hampton those first few days that I listened.

palehose23 wrote:

I have never called any of these shows. But my posts here are generally proof that I rarely have an original thought so your supposition is not much of a stretch. However, had your assumption been true, it still would not make it any easier for those non-grudgeholders to listen to Daniel Hampton try to get a thought out or make Laurence Holmes' The Pulse an exceptionally inspired idea.

I don't hate Laurence Holmes. I hate the Laurence Holmes and Daniel Hampton Show. I think I hate it anyway. It was a new show so I thought I would give it a try despite the fact that I had not enjoyed much of Laurence Holmes' work prior to that. I gave it a try for a few weeks. I will listen again in the future I imagine. Actually, I found Laurence Holmes' work on the show to be the best part of a show that was a difficult listen. Maybe with some different pieces the show would improve. Maybe not.

There are only 1 1/2 Chicago sports radio stations in town and I always hold out hope that the shows, even the shows I don't think I like, will improve. So, I have listened and will listen again because I enjoy sports talk in general even if I don't always enjoy the host. Hell, I've listened to the Mike North Webio Show.

I don't know who you are and don't care. I don't know who anybody on this board is and don't care much. I assume half the people on here have some axe to grind. So what? I've made fun of about every radio host out there, as Beardown has, it's a hazard of being a public figure. It's not personal. I don't write this stuff in the newspaper or about their personal lives. More people would read this if I wrote it in a public restroom. As another influential and respected author has written, "Chillax, broheim."

you could just come on and tell us. Notice there are very few haters of the M&H show...and even fans of Murph and B&B. However, I cannot (besides Mr. Reason?) find a single fan of this show. I was never a fan of Laurence and as far as Hampton goes, if a radio host is going to mumble, stutter and bumble, I prefer him to be funny and not need help with even basic tried and true "sayings." I mean this with no anger towards Dan, but he makes Buffone sound excellent by comparison. I know this because I was listening to Matty and Buffone last night, and Buffone was sounding extra good. I couldn't put my finger on it until I figured out I was subcon. comparing him to Hamp. Sorry Webby and unnamed score producer, but when a show is unredeemable, there is nothing you can do about it. Let it go, there are two other good shows on the Score that the station can hang their hat on. This show isn't even funny bad...at least, not yet. It's uncomfortable bad, as you lean in towards the radio as a listener, shouting aloud..."it isn't over, ah, um.......now.........ah"..................TILL IT'S OVER, Dan! TILL IT'S OVER!

I will try to listen today to see if my criticisms are unwarranted.

I will not call in, however, for fear of a poorly handled exchange leading to a life-long grudge.

It could be worse...it could be Salisbury & Rosenbloom.

I liked Rosenbloom...with Baum. That show was also unlistenable, but more due to Salisbury than Steve, imo...

Salisbury was definitely < Rosenbloom. But every time Steve would do that "Danny......Danny.....DANNY...." I just wanted to punch him in the face. And oh yeah the blog

Baum and Rosenbloom worked because Dave could every once in a while deflate Steve. Whereas S&R became Rosie deflating "Steak" every day, on the hour. Too easy.

So wait let me get this straight.... Webby comes on here and asks for thoughts. Some people took it seriously, some didn't.

But let me repeat that again.... WEBBY ASKED FOR OUR THOUGHTS. So now you come on here and tell us that we don't know what we're talking about and have axes to grid? Thursday afternoons buddy. 5:00.

I mean really. Some people have actually given what was asked for. Constructive criticism of the show. If Larry (and I will go back to calling him Larry) is so thin skinned that he has to have another producer come on here and tell us what jerks we are (and really, we know he reads this board, so do you think we honestly believe that you made your post because you think The Pulse is groundbreaking radio?) then he needs to grow up a lot more any anybody on here thinks.

Seriously Larry. Come on and fight your own battles.

And if a message board of your most dedicated listeners doesn't know what we're talking about, then I'm sure the ratings will prove us wrong right?

I have no idea who you are. Not going to take the time to try and find out. You're not Drinky, goff, or Rock, so that rules out the producers there that have tenure and know what's up. But let me ask you this question. Many of us on here have been listening to WSCR since it went on the air. If you are a junior producer, that means sometime around when you were in kindergarten. So please explain how those classes you took at Columbia or ICB or whatever last year make you so much more informed about what makes a successful SPORTS RADIO show than guys like SlapShot Ed, Scorehead 84 (I won't put his call in name) OPV, CBT......

Seriously man. Sit down with Larry for a weekend and the two of you get over yourselves.

OK. I've listened to an hour - that's enough for today. My earlier criticisms still stand.

Daniel Hampton has a hard time conveying coherent thoughts and Laurence Holmes' The Pulse gave out an award for a guy criticizing Gould's kick as a "perfect example of" Laurence Holmes' The Pulse when it is a call/text that could have been made during any Bears segment.

I won't even get into the 1/2 hour of Hawk-ey talk as that is just a personal preference rather than a criticism, although one could criticize the choice of such an extended segment for a subset of fans. But, it's opening day and I'm not here to insult hockey fans. I just look forward to the 1/2 hour of NASCAR talk next year before Daytona.

To Palehose and Webby -

I don't have too many opinions because I listed to Waddle and Silvy, simply put. I will listen to Hamp and Holmes when they come on at 12 on mondays, and that sounds fine to me - but that is because he really only has one topic - Bears. None of the pulse stuff or "what's hot in the streets" or what chick is hot from FHM.

oh my. First, apparently the show is commercial free. Webby, what is going on? Secondly, Laurence begins to sing not one, not two, not three but FOUR bars of a commercial. And not just any commercial, but the INANE Kars for Kids radio jingle. In my next post, I will type a Hampton exchange word for word...

That's why we're immature? That's the reason? Do you live under a rock or something. There are thousands of other, and much more deserving, reasons why we're immature. This doesn't even crack the top 100. Are these also examples of immaturity too: Mully, Murph, Hamp, Bernsy, Dan, Mac, Jurko, Harry, Greeny, Mike, Webby, Rock, Finji, Silvy?

palehose23 wrote:

Never called. But please Oh please tell me one of the original thoughts of Laurence's. I'll settle for one. Go ahead.... ***crickets**** ... exactly!

This is the standard weak defense that's always brought up by (insert show name) apologists...keep it. There's 2 sports radio stations in this town...2...that's it. If I want to hear sports when I'm in the car I turn on the radio and whatever's on is on. If 1000 is at commercial then it's 670 and vice versa. In case you forgot, you guys also provide updates (scores, lineups, breaking news) in addition to the show that is airing. So regardless of the show I have something to listen for. Don't confuse hearing the show with listening to the show.

palehose23 wrote:

Congratulations...just so you know, there's already a thread on here to brag about things that nobody cares about.

One question. I have no problem responding to your post, but why would I spend any time figuring out who you are? I don't care who you are.

Ok. I'll bite, Palehose23. I'll make one guess at who you are. Don't care, really. I just feel like playing detective.

Here is the Score's "Personality Page". It lists all of the SOBs at the Score. Including producers.
http://www.670thescore.com/pages/150736.php

I say it's Tim Bock. The guy with the weird neck beard. Never heard of him. It says he's the producer of White Sox baseball. I say it's him cuz he used Palehose as his name here.

now what are you going to do for the next 60 days, Beardown?

My problem is I don't know if it's LAWrence or LAUrence, so Larry's easier. Whereas I could be Gerald, Jerome, Jerry, Jer - but I'm not even Riles! My real name's Robert, or Rob, or Robby, or Bob, or Bobby.

Initially I just called him "Larry" cuz I knew he didn't like it. Very immature on my part. Now, that's his name to me. It's just natural for me.

I'm polite and respectfull when I have to be. My co workers and relatives don't know what I am. I fake it for them. Life is more fun when you're immature. I once tried to act like an adult for a week cuz I thought it was about time I should. That week sucked. So I went back to being immature. This board is a great release for me in that sense. That's one of the reasons why I like it. I don't know anybody here so I don't have to fake anything.

Palehose23/Tim Bock, you don't like us being mean to Larry. You're highly offended that we degrade the great Larry. Well, give us your list. Tell us 10 reasons why you love Larry. Do it. Do it now.

Use this board to do your job better and you won't be bashed. At least admit who you are instead of getting on your high horse about people on a message board sharing an opinion. You try and buy credibility by saying you are a producer but are unwilling to say who you are. What are you afraid of? If you truly do a good job, you shouldn't be worried about being bashed. However, if you can't handle the criticism against you, which is apparent from your post, you may want to hide behind your screen name. People like Mac, Drinky, Rock and others have found a way to deal with the criticism here and have constructive dialog. You are going to get unfiltered opinion from opinionated people here. Just because you don't have a dump button on this board doesn't mean that you can't come here and discuss your work and improve.

The "You hate Larry cuz he hung up on you for not having an original thought" was the best. Like you guys have said, Larry doesn't have an original thought. Never has. Most of his thoughts come from Bernsie or he just states the obvious.

I don't think anybody here has called Larry. I know I haven't.

Seriously, you have to give us that list of why you love Larry, Palehose. You can't criticize us without doing so. Give us that "I love Larry list because..." list

I don't care if he's Lawrence, Laurence, Larry or whoever. He's not good. He's not a good fill-in host, and here's he's being foisted on us as on a weekday show. That sucks.

Hampton. They knew who he was when they hired him. I have no problems with Hamp;
he stutters and doesn't have opinions always one what's being discussed. My attitude is, you knew that when you hired him; you'd know that if you used Buffone... It's the ex-jock thing.

There's this thing where you say we get transcripts of the show? Of the Hamp/Holmes show?!? WHY the fuck would we do that, and even if we wanted to, from where--?!?

Now North's web show, that's funny-bad, and yeah, Vann transcribes the show so we don't have to listen...

So, what are you defending? Webby; he asked a question, we answered it. Larry? A lot of us don't like his act. Others specifically do not like the Pulse.

Where did we loose you? Or do you get defensive so we can all cringe?

Hey Timmy, sounds like you're frustrated. If you don't like the customers you may want to get a new job. By the way, if your new job is in fast food please let us know what location as I suspect you are the kind of dbag that would spit on the burgers. Larry sucks and Hampton can't form a concise sentence. Its painful radio. Those are the facts. I wouldn't waste my time calling into Larry ever and I don't listen anymore as I'm not a masochist. By the way, congrats on your diploma from the Kyle Orton Beard Growing School. Nice!   :puker: :pukel:

I happen to like Hamp too, I even like Lawrence, Laurence, Larry ... what's all the fuss over these guys. I like Murph too whereas some I talk to don't ... but does our two cents really matter in the big picture. Hell, look at Bill O’Reilly there’s a portion of people out there who love the guy and there are those who loathe him.

And now somebody at the score has been accused of being Palehose for a guy stating he's "one of the producers” Couldn’t anybody write those simple lines. I can't imagine a person being who he says he might be if in fact they were a producer, I'd venture to say a real producer would assert that position or simply sit back and wait to see what others are writing as he responds anonymously ... these dude's being accused and having pics posted of them may not even realize they're being whacked; and what I'd be interested in learning is how one has received pics of somebody who works behind the scenes unless people on the inside or those who are close to them are posting these comments. In reading some of these posts I wonder why virtually the same folks over and over again write the same thing.

I am a producer of the show .

What the hell are you talking about? I got the pictures of the producers from the Score's web site. That's how I "received them". I said so in that post. It wasn't some covert operation on my part. I took a guess at who it was. I said it was a guess.
