That knocks out Thomas' primary complaint though that the cleaning up of the game was done for the Bulls benefit. It was done for the benefit of everyone. It just so happens that the Pistons relied more heavily on that extreme style of basketball than anyone. Is anyone wishing that the modern NBA would return to how games were played in the late 80s?

Yes. I prefer watching basketball to watching games of HORSE.

Of course the Bulls had enforcers. You had to have them with the way the game was.

However, the younger Pistons players did evolve away from the style too. Even Rodman went more towards massive annoyance rather than violence though obviously he did have his moments with players and cameramen. I think that actually proves the point though. Those players were able to play in a less physical league and be just fine. Somehow, the Bad Boy Pistons couldn't adjust to a league where you can't just hit anyone whenever you feel like it.

 You're a smart guy, BRick. Do you really not see what you're doing?

Bulls player = enforcer
Pistons player = dirty

I didn't use either of those words. Are you really going to argue that the three players you mentioned that were on the Pistons and Bulls didn't tone down the physical nature of how they played with the Bulls?

Rodman was a dirty player with the Bulls though. He just did it in a less physical way.

Yes. I prefer watching basketball to watching games of HORSE.

I would argue that the late 80s was the furthest from what basketball was designed to be in the history of the game and that goes to the slow white guy era to the "I'm mad my team sucks even though I make all the moves because I'm the best player on the team" era.

You said "That's how the game was played back then". If that was how the game was played back then it can't be that they changed the game just so the Bulls could beat the Pistons.

They changed the rules so guys like Jordan, Drexler, and Wilkins could fly around and dunk unmolested.

Because you and RFDC wanna be like Mike. Not like Artis or Kareem.

I just used the search function. I don't see any use in this thread by me of enforcer or dirty until this one.

Rodman was a dirty player with the Bulls though but in a far less physical way than he was with the Pistons.

Artis and Kareem didn't deal with that type of play either though. It's not like the Showtime Lakers were just fighting everyone on the way to titles. The NBA anomaly was the style of play of the late 80s.

Yes. I prefer watching basketball to watching games of HORSE.

I would very much prefer the physical style of mid to late 80's. I would definitely watch more NBA.

Link has summarized this all very nicely. There isn't much to argue about, but the board has gotta board

What rules were changed? Jordan still got hammered going to the basket. You could still hand check until after he retired.

So we're the Knicks. They took the Pistons style and ran with it.

Nothing before or since was at that level of the "trying to maim" Pistons. Starks was dirty, the Pistons had 3 of them.

I couldn't be happier the Pistons got overlooked. I couldn't be happier Isiah is bitter.

I think Derek Harper whooped Jo Jo English's ass on Mother's Day. His mother was probably in the crowd yelling, "Don't put your hands on my baby!"

Changes started to happen because the NBA had become a billion dollar business. Their billion dollar corporate partners and residents of Arlington Heights wanted to see a more "wholesome" style of basketball. MJ was pretty much out of the league by then.

Guys both current and former swear by the guy. His teammates also got along with him as well as his coaches. That is what i go by. Not the media spin or what Bulls fans or Jordan said about the guy. And as stated that stuff that he said about trying to make sure Jordan was good I believe to be a 100% accurate by the way. That is what I go by. Not some Bad Boys Pistons garbage.

Not only was Jordan the greatest, but he did it in Isaiah's hometown.

Relegating him to invisible status here.

Did you play hoops at Fenwick? Did you play against Isiah? You strike me as the kind of guy who played like Jeff Ruland and tried to knock little Isiah down.

That was my older brother, he played against Isaiah. He was phenomenal player, no doubt.

I was PA announcer.

I watched plenty of NBA back then.

But, I don't really find it relevant when I am relying on your observation of the NBA at the time for my point. If I am to assume you are well versed on the late 80s NBA then "That's how the game was played back then" is a solid piece evidence.

Karl Malone was one of the dirtiest players in the NBA. John Stockton was not too far behind him. There were plenty of other guys who played dirty too. Isiah wasn't really one of them. What he was tough as nails and a take no prisoners competitor that was also highly skilled and great at the game. That is why is one of the more highly respected elder statesmen in the NBA currently. Kenyan Martin admitted to clocking Malone years ago solely because of the bullshit bitch move he pulled on Zeke years earlier. Mind you Martin wasn't even in the NBA at the time nor had ever played with or for Zeke at the time he did it. Now that is respect.

You don't have a point other than to be disagreeable. That's my point. Why waste time with a guy that really didn't watch the game then nor do you watch the game much now. I'm sure that it is because of all of the "physical" and rather "dirty" play that you happen to be seeing on the floor.

I watched plenty of NBA back then.

But, I don't really find it relevant when I am relying on your observation of the NBA at the time for my point. If I am to assume you are well versed on the late 80s NBA then "That's how the game was played back then" is a solid piece evidence.

You don't have a point other than to be disagreeable. That's my point. Why waste time with a guy that really didn't watch the game then nor do you watch the game much now. I'm sure that it is because of all of the "physical" and rather "dirty" play that you happen to be seeing on the floor.

You are free to not respond to me if I don't impress you with my knowledge of late 80s basketball.

However, it doesn't seem to really make a difference how much I know when I am simply referencing your characterization of late 80s basketball unless you also lack sufficient knowledge of the subject.
