I'm still hoping they fail. I'm hoping the environmentalists win, they find dead bodies on the property, or Papa Bear intervenes.

Don't they require that books have a physical location in Illinois?

The physical sports book itself isn't that big of an investment. It's like building a big chain bar. 20 big screen tvs and 100 comfortable chairs and you have yourself a physical book.

I think people go to the one at Rivers. I went there when my kid had an event in Rosemont. There were degens filling it up on a weekday night in the summer. It's a nice way to watch a game.

So one of the big revenue streams is going to be nailing drunk drivers. And politically I wonder if the current protected casino and entertainment venue owners in the nearby suburbs will sit idly by for the McCaskey family to cut in on their profits and government handouts.

It won't be the McCaskey clan of dipshits that ram the nicest casino and hotel in the midwest down their competitors throats..it will be a multi billionaire with brains and balls.

I don't think they can knock it down. Doesn't it have historic landmark status? Isn't it a WWII monument?

I thought they stripped landmark status during the last time they fixed it.

Iirc they did. The only question remains the columns as silly as that sounds.

I thought the landmark status was part of the reason why they had to incorporate the old stadium into the spaceship.

If I'm the Bears the first thing I do after it becomes official is ask the White Sox to join them in a retractable roof stadium on the property.

That makes entirely too much sense. Because now the city, county and state have to open up their wallets. Hopefully they could keep the thieves from McPier out…unless they can tear down the white elephant that is the old McCormick Place for the new site.

Probably. I'm not a gambler so the growth of online or brick and mortar has zero appeal to me anyways and if anything these partnerships make me less and less interested in sports in general.

I’m in the exact same boat. The hypocrisy of the league partners is astounding, but revenue over everything.

They have access to much cheaper ways to finance than non-billionaires. The NFL eventually steps in and finances it for cheap if it needs to.

good dolphin wrote:
So, yes, I think this gets built. I also think opening will push up right to the end of the Soldier Field lease, which, if I recall is 2031. I kind of think the Bears want it that way, anyway.
The NFL seems to have a sense of urgency on this though. My guess is the dome is done by 2027 with the Bears getting the 2028 Super Bowl.

Maybe I’m being nieve, but I don’t really see the motivation for anyone to do a sweetheart deal with the Bears unless they’re looking to enter the N.F.L. club. Which cannot be discounted. New York and Los Angeles was money spent by wealthy owners on four teams in the two largest markets. Vegas, Atlanta and the new stadium in Nashville are for new or burgeoning markets. The league kick in Buffalo is simply following precedent for a relatively recent owner who showed loyalty to a ridiculously small market.

The Bears don’t fit any of those molds. Plus it makes no financial sense, especially since you’re talking about tearing down Solder Field and playing in Champaign for two or three years. It’s no longer the seventies or eighties, city residents don’t care like we used to and as long as team hq remains in the far out burbs, players aren’t going to be attracted to suburban life in the sticks.

That's all in the equation. It's why the go getter was hired. And I bet there's a whopper payoff in the end. The guy hasn't gotten to where he's at by luck.

Does the NFL allow teams to be collateral for loans? Does not sound like something the league would allow.

One question in this is why would Cook County pay to help the Bears move from one Cook County city to another Cook County city? This is not a Cook versus DuPage/Will/whatever situation.

Does anyone think the Dems running this state are going to want to spend money for the McCaskeys when Virginia donated to Jeanne Ives? The McCaskeys are not the Wirtzes or Reinsdorf, whom would have had all the politics done well before now. And the clock is ticking on that properly option. It is up in March.

I think that was the plan, but when they finished it, the Historical Preservation whatever people took one look at it and said fuck this place and they delisted it.

So they fucked the Bears and Chicago. They interfered in the process and then removed the status after it was over.

The city/state money will likely be for infrastructure improvements and not the property.

The Bears aren't taking public money up front. They still want public money, but are looking to do it in a different way;

Quote:
According to the Daily Herald, there is one more in consideration. Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes confirmed to the paper that the Bears are assessing asking for a PILOT agreement, or Payments in Lieu of Taxes, which would allow the team to negotiate a property tax payment instead of paying taxes based on land value.

The tax option is used now for nonprofits, so setting a PILOT agreement up for the Bears would require at least state legislation but might require a constitutional amendment.

"As we have mentioned publicly, in order for this project to move forward, we will need to have property tax certainty and infrastructure support," Bears Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Scott Hagel said. "We continue to do our due diligence on how that can be accomplished, but have made no asks at this point."
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/202212 ... =193794095

So what they 'save' in property taxes will be put towards building the stadium, district, etc. Rumor is that this plan has not been well received in Springfield.

Tough to know. Warren single-handedly got public subsidies for USBank that went well beyond infrastructure spending - why not for Arlington Heights Field?
