I don't think their analogies to the present are very analogous. They try too hard to fit them together perfectly to the point of fibbing a bit on the (more important) biblical story. At least two of the stories they use aren't even cannon in the jesus story (flight into egypt and massacre of the innocents).

Don't have to be too old to remember the days when you would be sent outside to play every day during the summer because your mom and all the other neighborhood moms were gathered around ashtrays watching daytime TV, bitching endlessly about their soon to be ex husbands. If it wasn't their "show" (soap opera), it was a Gene Rayburn, Wink Martindale, or John Davidson on the idiot box schmoozing with a glass closet due like Paul Lynde or Charles Nelson Reilly.

Remember this being the summer time norm back in 4th grade.
