I have told this story a time or two before, but one of my good friends takes trips out to Colorado. About five years ago, on said trip, they drove down to a reservation in New Mexico where there was some cool shopping. Every where he went, the Indians on the reservation were wearing Redskins jerseys. He finally asked one of the guy why they would wear that jersey. The guy said it was their team, and they all felt that way. They were not offended at all but actually thought it was great.

She used that platform as a CYA and as Spiral has noted, shaped the perception in a way that is more likely to result in violence. She is the first opinion on this and she could have cooled things down while still holding the officers (and her force) accountable.
