I agree. Of course Jones is shooting for the moon. Which is why the Giants will likely have to franchise him, which sucks for the Giants and Jones.

Would you pay him $40+ mil per year for 3 or 4 years, or franchise him?

If I wanted Jones to be on my team for the next 3 years I would pay him $40 million per year for 3 years rather than tag him 3 years in a row and pay him $56 million in year 3 and an average of $42 million for those 3 years. Add in a team option for year 4 if you are worried he won't be good. $40 million seems like a good middle ground but maybe for his own security you could get him down to $38 million.

Fair enough. If he gets that and comes back next year I'll be happy. I'm not signing his checks.

Jones isn't worth whatever percent of the cap it would take to sign him.

Well i know signing him at least allows them to tag Barkley. If they have to tag Jones that means Barkley is likely as good as gone, and that is probably going to hurt Jones performance a great deal. Having to tag Jones is a worst-case scenario, because he has not done anything worthy of 40mil a year.

This would never happen but I think they can get by without signing both? Sign or draft cheaper versions of the same positions and improve the roster elsewhere.

I think they need Jones because he showed a lot of promise, but again, I'd franchise him before I'd pay him $40mil per. I'd be very wary paying the money Barkley wants. He's a great player, but if he is wanting $15, $16 mil a year I'd let him walk.

Tag will cost close to 50 mill, Jones has em by the balls. If I'm NYG I take a chance and ink a 5 year 190 mill deal and hope it works out.

It's $52 million in year 3.

The first year is cheap at $32 million but what is the point of keeping him around if you don't think he even makes it to year 2?

We shall see. I hope they sign him, franchising him is a terrible cap hit. I do trust Schoen to do what is best for the team. the Giants took a calculated (and correct) risk in not picking up his option. He had a good year and earned the right to play hardball.

They want to keep him around, to this point he hasn't earned a long-term $40mil per year contract. Franchise him, get him some tools in the skill positions, and see what happens in 2023. If he goes nuts next year, good for him.

I like Daniel Jones, he is a good QB, not great. Id like to see him stick around, but im not paying 40mil long term for a guy who has 60 career passing TD's in 4 years.

It will all come down to the relationship between Daboll and Jones imo.. I don't know how they feel about each other.

the Giants announced immediately after the season Jones would be back one way or the other, there have been no reports of anything but a good relationship between Jones and the coaches, his teammates or the organization in general. Jones is right shooting for the moon, his reputation is good and his performance really improved this year.

There really isn't a better option for the Giants than Jones...they have to find a way to bring him back. Carr? Jimmy G? The Draft? They don't have a better option available.

there isn't any question he is coming back. the question is how they will retain his services, via long-term contract or franchise tag.

Like (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky the only way forward for Wentz is as a #2. In fact (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Wentz might compete for best #2 in the league. If anyone picks Wentz as #1 they're screwed and their coach is getting fired.

I'd take Mike White over (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky

If half of what is being reported is true, then how does Lamar Jackson end up back in Baltimore?

They should do something quickly before the front office and players say even worse stuff about each other.

I don't see it either. He'll sign a deal. I don't see him gambling another year. The Ravens also see they're very limited without him.

Work with me here.

I'm trying to increase the market for the Bears pick.

So you think he plays against cincy in week 1 playoff if he had signed an extension ?
