Only if it's Will Anderson or bust for them.

Arizona might have been high on Carter, but now it's virtually impossible they get Anderson if they move down past #2.

Poles is going to fuck this up, I feel it. I wish we had that late first rounder back, should have signed Kirk or Zay Jones and avoid the Claypool disaster. Nothing is breaking his way. The FA class is drying up, and this weak ass draft just got weaker.

People sleeping on Tyree Wilson in here.. he’s a damn good prospect if the Bears trade back out of Anderson’s range..

He has supposedly met twice with the Bears already and fits into the description of being "long" with the news on his Giannas type wingspan.

Not sure though people are sleeping on him if he's emerging now as a top 5-10 pick (and maybe higher now with Carter's issues).

The character issues just add more reasons to stay away from him.

We need to understand the full story here before we start dropping him too far, but the initial information doesn't sound great.

I saw a mock today that had him at 6. I don’t watch much Texas Tech - is he a 3-4 LB who’s really just a DE?

You'd probably pass on Lance Briggs too.

Trading a first round pick for a fringe #2 receiver was a Ryan Pace move.

The greatest GMs in the history of the sport have some bad moves. One move does not determine things. This offseason will give us a much clearer picture.

Correct, and most draft picks don't produce starters despite the expectation, when you listen to the Score, that the Bears should hit on every pick else it's a major question on Poles' ability to draft.

I would expect the Bears to add a RT, DT, and LB in free agency. RT and DT will cost big money and expect a veteran LB to upgrade over Morrow. From there, they will need to sort out the RB/TE spots (if they choose to look at these positions in free agency) and I wouldn't be surprised if they add a second OL/DL (more of an edge type) in free agency after the initial spending.

Realistically, they have to fill 6 of 7 spots in their defensive front 7. If they add 3-4 players in free agency (at least 1 higher end player with some moderate/bargain shopping) and add 2-3 picks from the first four 4 rounds in the draft, they should upgrade competition, add 2-3 higher end talents to the front 7 and have the makings of a rebuilt front 7 to complement their secondary.

Offensively, I would expect Jenkins and Jones to be starters next season, but a guy like Patrick should have to earn a starting center job. There is a clear hole at RT and Whitehair's status is probably questionable. If they add one clear starter at RT, and maybe an interior OL, they can still add another OL in the early/middle rounds to essentially have 3 upgrades to the OL heading into next season.

It's hard to see them spending much in free agency on WR or RB, but I would expect them to add a veteran at RB (whether it's Montgomery or someone else).

It will be hard to upgrade the roster in all need area's this off-season, but if they can turn the #1 pick into 2-3 more top 100 picks this year (plus a future 1st), they will have opportunites to upgrade the overall talent on the roster without being overly needy on specific positions.

Not sure if you're being serious or not, but, if you're suggesting that they would ignore character questions with the top pick in the draft, I would quesiton your intelligence.

At some pick, his character becomes a risk worth taking, but I would agree that it's not at the #1 pick. Let's see what develops with this story though.

Arrest warrants for Carter have now been issued...

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/b ... story.html

INDIANPOLIS — Arrest warrants for Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter were issued Wednesday morning, sending shock waves through the NFL combine where the top NFL draft prospect and potential Chicago Bears target was scheduled to meet with teams and hold a session with reporters.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced it issued warrants for reckless driving and racing in relation to Carter’s involvement in a Jan. 15 fatal crash that killed Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy, who was driving the car that crashed. Both charges for Carter are misdemeanors.

It’s a mistake if that’s what they have in mind for him -he’d be a terror coming off the edge. Julius Peppers is my comp for him.

I don’t like him at 3 tech, he’s an edge all day long tho

Definitely hurts his status -but not as much as him being found drunk at the scene. He’ll still get drafted, ‘where’ is the only question now..

I meant sleeping on him as in all is not lost if Carter is out of the picture.

He can play with his hand in the dirt just fine, his ability to make up ground laterally after redirecting RB’s is other-worldly.. and that’s wasted if they try to move him to 3 tech. He’s also got a motor too.. the more I see of him the more I like.

Bears should sign Walker from Denver and put him at 3 tech and draft Wilson to play edge.

I would kick his tires late in the 2nd. Myles Murphy is still my guy if I can't have Will Anderson.

I doubt he does jail time so he won’t get into the 2nd. Murphy isn’t bad but I have Wilson above him. Anderson is my top guy, but I do wonder about his ability to stop the run and play in a 4-3.. I don’t have those worries with Wilson.

Stay at least at #2, draft Will Anderson and be done with it. This is a shitty ass draft.

I had a list. He was on it. He just wasn't as high as Murphy. Now I can't find that list.

Edit: I found my list. Wilson was 3rd.

I would guess that he would be stilll be a top 10 pick, maybe this isn't even an issue by draft day if he gives a bunch of interviews showing regret, etc. Of course, this depends on if he had further involvment, etc.

I think a team considering drafting him as high as #1 would prefer a player (like Anderson) with no known character issues, but his talent will ultimately allow for teams to give him a 2nd chance.

Even if he does drop out of the top five, it's a matter of time before somebody can't pass on the talent.

Yeah, I'd say he'll be Warren Sapp'd down to around 12th.

Your significantly upgrading your defensive line with any of these guys. Seems the 6'5" to 6'6" guys with long arms are the new prototype for the three techs, you get a big body with long arms that can threaten the inside by using arm length to get separation from the G/C or split the double teams.

Hearing more and more of the vaunted "Bears Experts" selling the idea that fans should not expect the team to be competitive until 2024, trying to limit expectations, this must be a team fueled idea because the idiots that you hear on local sports talk radio are all pushing this agenda which seems to be BS if you look at teams like Jacksonville or the Giants who became competitive via FA and high draft picks.

Still seems that Poles would be best suited to wait until draft day and see which team cracks and offers up the most picks, it would seem there would be multiple opportunities to trade down as the QB's go off the board, within the first four and then again after four because there will still be a QB available and teams like Vegas and Carolina will likely get desperate like Pace did and pony up a bunch of future draft capital.

Could see several scenarios where Poles is picking in the middle of the first round, but walks away with three or four extra first or second round picks.

I'm starting to think that if they trade down and get a high second, they should draft a TE from this excellent group. I personally think Musgrave from Oregon St. It's just too good of a crop not to get in on. Avoid the need to reach on Bowers next year with players who have talent to be difference makers at the position.

I also think that my middle round guy, if they don't sign Monty, is Kendre Miller from TCU.

They have so many needs though. Why use a high draft pick to shore up a position where they’re already adequate when they have about 15 holes between both sides of the ball?

This TE group has guys who will be top 5 at the position within their rookie contracts. You have to take elite skill position talent when its available because there are entire years where it is not. TE, you may have several years. Musgrave is a two way TE who is big enough to block and has elite speed to beat LB.
