I don't really get why people care about such tactics. Play tiddlywinks for all I care. Just find the best football players to put on your uniform.

You want to get a feel for how competitive guys are. All things being close to equal, I want the players who have some dog in them.

Completely agree. Which is why I am fine with them doing such things as darts, etc. Anything to gauge their competitive spirit.

Take 'em to a bar and tell them to try and pick up a broad. Find out who the real alphas are.

Watch several years of them playing the game you coach and see if they’re good at it.

Side note: arguably the worst draft decision in Bears’ history was the result of a GM liking the way a guy made a dinner reservation & the car he drove.

Getting cute around talent evaluation is another one of those luxuries a talent-poor franchise can’t afford.

It's easy to look great against inferior opposition. You find out what folks are made of when they compete against people who are as talented as they are or they're under pressure.

This is why Rodgers owns the Bears, but the 49ers own him.

Then just draft the SEC. Take the Pax approach of drafting solid guys from blue bloods.

To your early point, even if Pace thought (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was a humble kid and a good teammate, the talent and pedigree gap was too wide to pass on Mahomes. You only take the kid who had dog in him when the talent is somewhat close.

Ryan, why did you draft Will Anderson? I beat him in darts and he threw a dart right at my chest.

I'm starting to think that if they trade down and get a high second, they should draft a TE from this excellent group. I personally think Musgrave from Oregon St. It's just too good of a crop not to get in on. Avoid the need to reach on Bowers next year with players who have talent to be difference makers at the position.

I also think that my middle round guy, if they don't sign Monty, is Kendre Miller from TCU.

They have so many needs though. Why use a high draft pick to shore up a position where they’re already adequate when they have about 15 holes between both sides of the ball?

This TE group has guys who will be top 5 at the position within their rookie contracts. You have to take elite skill position talent when its available because there are entire years where it is not. TE, you may have several years. Musgrave is a two way TE who is big enough to block and has elite speed to beat LB.

Guy couldn't produce in college but in the NFL he will be better than Dallas Goedert within 4 years? I doubt it.

yeah dolphin what do you like about musgrave? Pulled up his stats. 2 TDs in 4 years? 11 recs for 169 yds in his senior year?

Yikes!

I don’t know. I think that between multiple years of tape, interviews, practices, workouts and the combine, playing games with this kids doesn’t tell me much. Dogs have a tendency to exude a level of focus and intensity when they perceive something to be on the line.

Besides that’s supposed to be something general management is getting paid for. Not tiddlywinks.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was a bench warmer behind a guy with a clear XFL ceiling, and tellingly one who changed what he wanted to be called because his mommy wanted him to. Just like with “Rock” Raines, I knew he was going to be a bust.

It seems to take TE's several years to learn the position and contribute. There are the occasional exceptions like Kyle Pitts, but the top rookie TE this year had 450 receiving yards and 3 TD's, less than Kmet who is an average NFL TE.

Would rather sign a vet TE unless you can draft a guy like Brock Bowers who is a walking size/speed mismatch.

There will be some solid skill position guys at the top of next years draft, most notably Marvin Harrision Jr. a likely true #1 WR, would really like to get the Raiders #1 next year.

I think the Bear's need to add another back-up quarterback. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky?

Is Pitts a bust? Seems to be suffering from the same thing that plagues Claypool, Jeudy, DJ Moore, etc.

No, Pitts doesn't have any dog in him and doesn't give the effort. He's an example of a guy you must look at more than talent for.

which seems fast but wasn't exceptional in the edge rusher group. It certainly is fast enough but it was 12th in the group. This is a really strong draft class of edge rushers and I hope the Bears get a couple.

I saw a few weeks ago Greg Gabriel thought the guy from northwestern would be perfect for 3T with the Bears. He ran a 4.49 and broad jumper (shows explosiveness) in the top 10. He or Tuli from USC are the guys I want for 3T if the Bears can get back into the top of the second round
