I thought it was 10am on the first Tuesday of the month and then realized it wasn't.

It was very confusing. What the hell?

There was definitely a return on the radar that was worth issuing a Tornado Warning for.

Agree.

He and I are kindred spirits when it comes to Pearl Jam and being weather geeks. He lifts enough weights for the both of us.

Who trained him? Is there a spotter training progam?

Yes; https://www.weather.gov/ilx/spotter

I am a trained spotter, but its been a few years so I probably should go to one of these again.
You call in and report what you see. I think I've called like 3 times to report a wall cloud and rotation. Still haven't seen a tornado myself, though in fairness I don't get out and chase like Slappy does.

These reports from spotters and law enforcement coupled with radar returns gives the NWS near real time info as to where a storm might be located or roads that might be flooded out, and they can issue or update warnings accordingly.

I was being a bit of a smartass but now I know something I didn't know before. I had no idea.

To be clear, your honor, I was completely being a smart ass. But I still know something I didn't know before.

So what class should we sign up for? ;)

After a round of golf at Deer Creek, I attended my first one of these seminars in 2015 in Monee and it was me, one other old guy, 2 sheriff's deputies, and like the entire Monee Public Works staff. I enjoyed it, as it was very informative though I am a self admitted weather geek. Bit of swag, and they raffled off a weather radio and a couple of gift cards from local businesses.

I talked to one of the officers after and he said that after the Plainfield F5 tornado that struck with basically no warning, Will County mandated that almost all of their county officials and public works staff become trained weather spotters. It's a good idea really as these guys are out and about and this gives the weather services hundreds of eyes on different storms.

Looks like we could get a bunch of snow Friday, or maybe a little, or maybe rain, or maybe a lot of rain. Windy too.

Probably just a muddy, rainy mess out here, seems that is how this year has gone. One of the forecasters out here showed the models for it a few days ago and we were either going to be absolutely buried or get rain.

Severe Winter Storm Watch
Fri, Mar 3, 2023, 6:00 AM CST

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...RAIN CHANGING TO HEAVY WET SNOW POSSIBLE. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO 5 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE. WINDS COULD GUST AS HIGH AS 45 MPH.

* WHERE...PORTIONS OF CENTRAL, EAST CENTRAL, NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

* WHEN...FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL COULD BE VERY DIFFICULT. THE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ARE MOST LIKELY TO IMPACT THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING COMMUTES.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH A NARROW ZONE WHICH WILL ALLOW SNOW TO ACCUMULATE ON MOST ROAD SURFACES. ADDITIONALLY, THE HEAVY, WET NATURE OF SNOW COMBINED WITH THE STRONG WINDS WILL LEAD TO A POTENTIAL FOR SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES WHERE THE HEAVIEST SNOW FALLS.

EXACTLY WHERE THE HEAVIEST SNOW FALLS DEPENDS ON THE STORM'S EXACT TRACK. OF THIS THERE IS STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY. IT DOES APPEAR THAT ALMOST ALL OF NORTHEAST ILLINOIS WILL EXPERIENCE AT LEAST SOME WINTER PRECIPITATION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR UPDATES ON THIS SITUATION.

I appreciate their specificity. Portions of various areas of the state from morning to night.

Go get 'em.

 Winter storms are always hard to predict- especially now as temps warm up a bit- but this one seems very strange. Even ~12-18 hours before precipitation is supposed to start I still don't know if my area will get more rain, snow, or ice/freezing rain.

I'm working remote tomorrow and have a bottle of bourbon so I guess I'm good either way.

The one thing there seems to be a consensus on are the high winds so whatever falls from the sky, its going to be just a miserable afternoon and evening tomorrow.

I used to think that he was an odd joke. Then I heard that he made as much advising commodities traders and big commercial farmers and realized how much he may in fact have with his late hustler brother. I'm sure he'll make a quick killing. Good for him.

Late brother? Jeff Skilling is still alive and back in business. I think you're mixing him up with Ken Lay.

It's going to have to snow awfully hard to stick at 37 degrees. Like really really hard.

That 6-10 prediction yesterday had NO CHANCE.

Got clicks though.

You're right. They're one and the same to me, especially when I watch an Astros game at their renamed home ballpark.
