Everyone is very excited about the upcoming draft. Can we just reflect on the fact that our new GM gave up the 33rd overall pick for Chase Claypool. This guy ain't no Theo Epstein

Yep! He couldn't have dreamed of being in a better situation after his first year.

Unless McCaskey (or the new VP) overrules him.

I'm still good with it unless Hyatt is sitting there.

Poles did a great job positioning the Bears for future success. I just don't know if he can pick and sign the right players. I don't hate what he did in the draft, but I don't love it either. We need better than okay to good this offseason. We need good and great.

Yes, thanks for the pick. 33rd overall.

We'll never see ROI on that one until he actually gets targets.

We've seen him get open. He was open a lot today.

Edit: Unlike last offseason, the Bears coaching staff and front office know what they have on their roster.

A-Rob is being shopped, Mack will be cut, Hicks will be out of the league, and Quinn may be out of the league too.

A-Rob is a total fraud. He needs a Thieving Mack nickname!

One of the most remarkable set of circumstances in NFL history, Lovie should be inducted into the Bears Hall of Fame for his coaching career, but him handing the franchise the #1 pick makes it a slam dunk.

Poles will likely turn the #1 overall pick into several additional first and second round picks, securing picks in the top 10 of next years draft is key as the QB class is better and there are some top level skill guys, theoretically you could be in the exact same spot next year, holding a top pick with teams desperate for a QB.

I don't recall having an issue with any of those moves, but continue preparing Ryan Poles statue in Canton for his executive career.

I'll let you know in the next month or so if I need to expedite the order.

33rd pick, isn't it? Poles was in a box though, because the Packers were going to get him with their 2nd rounder. It's up to Claypool to determine whether it was expensive or VERY expensive.

I just think objectively, in the scheme of NFL drafts, the #33 pick, is pretty damn valuable.

Consider Claypool was #49. I don't know if Poles overpaid, just doing some math.

Claypool was the 49th pick, generally has been a disappointment, and was traded for the #33 pick with 1.5 years left on his contract. That's Ryan Poles getting raped.

Claypool himself still has a chance to be quite valuable. Right now it looks like a poor move, but there is still time for the guy to emerge as a WR. I'll invoke captain obvious here and say that time will tell.

And to be fair, at the time of the trade, the Bears were 3-5. Probably sitting at around #9 or #10.

Right. MANY probably figured they had 2-3 more wins in them.

I've seen enough blown 2nd round picks where I'm not bothered by this trade. I liked what I saw when he was on the field. He just needs a quarterback to throw him the ball.

He's a malcontent. That's why the Steelers drafted his replacement and demoted him to #3 before foisting him on Poles.
