The problem with DB pensions is the financial strain on the sponsors. All three major sponsor groups have experienced problems- corporate plans, Union multi employer plans, and government plans. They are not sustainable.

Gee that's just too bad for sponsors, maybe they should work harder.

About 50 million of our 340 million citizens have a 401k. Investments come with risk. Everyone is made aware of that.

social security is the way to go. forces the government to actually worry about the markets. with 401k they are incentivized to steal all of it.

I "trust" that I am more likely to get "it" than I would if I had a 401k.

Pensions that pay 80–100% or more of final salaries to people who are in their 50s are a scourge on society.

Hate to say it but the failure of Corporate America to deliver on their MANY promises ain't exactly the fault of the pension collectors. When I was much younger I was told that the 401k was the way to go. Apparently until it wasn't I suppose.

If anybody ever said it’s preferable to a pension, that person is an idiot. But I “doubt” “they” ever “existed.”

There’s a reason your public sector union elects people to negotiate its retirement plans.

No one says that now but they surely said it "then". 401ks only became "undesirable" once the market became "oversaturated" with them.

Nobody ever said that putting your own money into a retirement plan is better than getting paid money you never “contributed.”

Yes they did. And believed when 401ks first "evolved".

Good for Link and anyone else who has a pension. They got over on the rest of us. No hard feelings here. Enjoy it.

I’d just rather they cover their shortfalls with their own tax money rather than try to reach into my pocket.

And I'd much rather that Corporations do the same as well. Which "WE" in the Public Sector know that they would NEVER do!

To take it a step further. The Stock Market (Which MANY are currently "whining" about) would collapse tomorrow if the "evil" Govt stopped subsidizing it.
That 401k plan of yours goes bellyup the second the Govt stops funding it with the hard earned money of American taxpayers. Ironically no one ever quite seems to "know" or ever "admit" this.

And your "pension" would cease to exist the second the gov't stopped subsidizing it with our tax dollars.

There isn't 1 cent of my pension that is financed by the Like's of you you damn loser. Not one and the suburb that you are so proud to call "home" was financed by the hard work of people like my parents and grandparents who got up and worked their ass off every day all so they can create a racist utopia where they weren't even deemed "good" enough to live.
All so 2 bit, barely literate bums like you coukd wake up everyday and "enjoy" with your sorry, miserable ass.

Nah you're just ignorant. Which each and everyone here already knows. It's well known (not by your dumbass no doubt) That "Suburban American" was created by "Urban America" idiot. Your little "outpost" would not exist without the subsidies that was provided by Chicago dumbass. The very same Chicago that you hate and deride each and every chance you get. Do you think that people all of a sudden decided to move out into the middle of nowhere you damn fool?

I gave you a compliment. I said you were good at something.

Your pension is paid for with tax dollars. Fact.

You take multiple trips to the middle of nowhere every year and then bounce. Fact.

And you are a dude that has had to change jobs numerous times because you have no career to speak of. Also "fact"

You're jealous because CTU teachers have a career and you don't. Also Fact.

CTU isn't the reason your life is fucked up. Also fact.

CTU teachers are more educated and qualified to do their job than you are to do yours. Fact.

None of your tax dollars goes towards paying CTU salaries or their pension yet for some reason you seem to be awfully bitter about it. Fact

Can you say "professional jealousy"? I know I can.

You ought to worry about the number of taxpayers leaving your city and your state.
