From what i read, Poles insisted that Moore be a part of the deal or it wasn't going to happen. History will prove him right or wrong, but you can't argue with the draft haul they got...especially since taking Moore away from that team ostensibly increases your next years 1st rd. pick from them

It's the draft haul that's arguable, not the addition of Moore. He better be as advertised or this was a fairly big mistake.

I dont think the questions is whether Moore is as advertised, it’s whether his qb is. Moore has a body of work, we have a pretty good idea what he is.

Moore is due a hefty salary this year and then it goes down the next 2 years. He's worth the 20 mill this year though.

Then the lack of the draft haul is fine.

Simply nonsense...they regained their 2nd Rd. pick for him, he just doesn't matter...hopefully 4th at best on the depth chart

and they needed to spend money on the FA class or risk being under the threshold of minimum spending...all in one fell swoop with the signing of DJ (Dinty) Moore before FA signings and the draft

There is no way that Claypool is happy. He has basically been told that he gets to block for a QB who can't throw and needs to run and that he is now the 3rd option at wr. Nothing about this Bears rebuild has me scared because they are foolishly standing behind Fields. If and when they decide to dump Fields I will then be scared because they have the money and picks to build a pretty good team.

You should be more concerned that Love is worse than Fields.

I'm somewhat concerned that the flash I saw from Love against the Eagles was legit. I never thought I would say this, but Rodgers coming back to the Packers may be in the best interest of the Bears.

There is zero chance you know anything about Love (no pun intended). None of us do. I know that management seems to believe and some of the defensive players have talked up his growth. The oddest is that Mike Martz sang his praises. We shall see.

Yep Zippy beat me to it. No one knows enough about Love to have a strong opinion on him.

That flash took me by surprise. He looked pretty good in pre season but in that game he marched them right down the field in no time and he did it throwing to areas Rodgers won't touch. That crosser to Watson was awesome. That game was enough for me to want to see a full season of what he can do vs 1 more season of Rodgers and his decaying play.

Pro Football Talk is essentially TMZ at this point - zero credibility. There isn't a WR on Earth that thinks bringing in more talent hurts their productivity. Claypool now gets more single coverage, and Mooney might benefit the most being able to put up huge numbers as a minimal part of opposing defenses game plan These are just click articles

Moore is reasonably priced (3 years) for being a #1 on the cusp of being a top 10 receiver compared to his peers. Bonus money won't go against the Bears cap. Yac is low. Could be bigger. Played productive with Bear-like bad qb's at Carolina. Bears got a nice haul of picks. This years #9 is better than 9 considering Bears aren't in the QB market with 4 possible 1-8. Overall I'm very happy with the trade. Looking forward to the draft. Only time will tell the success. Trade is pissing contest fodder for the 25-post a day "I'm an expert!...listen to me!" arguing posters.

which is actually perfectly suited for the Bears as they have the money this year so they can handle to balloon payment. Then, the contract provides them relief in less bountiful years.

The bitch is going to be, if all works out well, Fields and Moore are FA together along with last year's picks like Jones.

If Moore plays as well as he’s played in Carolina, I find it very hard to believe he’ll be taking a pay cut next year without issue. That puts him, Claypool, Mooney and Fields all in the mix for new contracts next year (and maybe Kmet, though that seems to be coming this offseason).

Which is fine - you’re probably happy to have that problem if it all works out.

Can players really do that now though? I thought the last CBA made it virtually impossible to actually sit out.

I think the team is forced to fine an actual holdout, but there’s no way to legislate away a player’s unilateral ability to be a giant pain in the ass.

It's not even the beginning of a concern until the last year of the contract.

NFL owners seem to be really good at punishing players like that without colluding though. If DJ Moore wants that next big deal then he'll play nice enough.

Think Mooney will play the slot? Also, do they go after another tight end?

These longtime NFL writers all remind me of Sam Smith and NBA writers of the early nineties. Throw crap at a wall and hope 10% sticks.
