Zippy is lying here. The pack won't have a "disgruntled" backup QB. You'll have two QBs who want out. On Rodgers, there is no trade partner other than the Jets. After Gute incompetently failed to resolve the Rodgers issue following the season, Rodgers singlehandedly told the league "do not trade for me because I'm only going to the Jets". After that announcement, which again was only caused by Gute's indecision and lack of executive management skills, even interested teams were not gonna make offers to the pack for Rodgers because Rodgers would simply not show up. That reduced the packs leverage considerably - they can only work with the jets. This is what happens when your GM is an genius.

You are a delusional mess.

Love does not want out. He is the Packers 2023 starter. It's up to the Jets if they want Rodgers or Zach Wilson.

If love is the starter, and everyone knows it... how do the Packers have leverage again? Because the fans want Rodgers? Ok.

https://sports.yahoo.com/jordan-love-re ... 00347.html

*He wants out if Rodgers is back. Tbf, he should want out. Any high draft pick worth the investment should refuse to sit for almost the entirety of the rookie deal. It's dumb that the Packers haven't extracted any value at all from the two picks they invested in him anyway, and yes value is either 1) him actually contributing to winning games, 2) flipping Rodgers (because you have love) to maximize his remaining value (nas mentioned this), or 3) flipping love for more assets to win. Gute has not done any of this so far. Since he miscalculated on when he could replace Rodgers and botched Rodgers exit he can no longer extract max value from both Rodgers and Love. Because our guy FF doesn't recognize this it can only mean FF has become enchanted with the taste of Gute's boots.

The future is looking very Gute for the Pack. I would tell the Jets to give me both this years 2nd round picks and call it a day. No picks next year, no 1st round pick and certainly no insurance pick going back to the Jets

Surely the Jets would probably prefer Rodgers, but they also are not likely to give up first rounders or multiple picks to get him. The Jets, who have all of the leverage, can make an offer and tell the Packers to take it or leave it.

If we can improve technique then we might miss fewer spots. Still got a few pebbles in the nooks and crannies of my sole.

I'd say that's what's holding this deal up, GB wants both those picks and the Jets said nah.

If the Jets want the thing that the Packers have, but they don't want to give up what the Packers are asking to get that thing, that is the definition of the Packers having the leverage. If the Jets want Rodgers, then they need to do what they have to do to get him. If they choose to use Zach Wilson next year, that is one way to avoid the whole situation. But the pressure is clearly on the Jets here - go for it with a QB they think could immediately propel them into contention, or throw another year away.

Personally i think it is kind of funny that the Jets and Aaron Rodgers have a crush on each other and neither seemed to consider the Packers could want to be compensated.

The obsession really is something. It's especially rich coming from a fanbase that's never had a good QB in their lifetime. Like we are supposed to be upset that GB prioritizes the most important position in sports while the Bears treat it as an afterthought.

You're right. Since we are Bears fans we should not talk about this national story at all.

Now, THIS I completely agree.

Just because the Jets owner has a big mouth doesn't mean the pressure is on them and the Packers have all the leverage. It just means he has a big mouth. Jets did jack-shit last year and are not favored to win anything next year even with Rodgers. The Jets could fold and say "nah fuck it" you can keep Rodgers and life will go on as normal. I fully realize that's not going to happen, but again....the Packers still are on the hook for the albatross of a contract on record. Maybe it gets thrown out by Rodgers but that's only if there's an actual trade. If the trade falls through the Packers are royally fucked financially.

Again, this simply isn’t true. But feel free to believe anything you want. The fact is the Packers take a hit either way…and they are still under the cap either way. But listen to BigW72.

Is it? We all want new and different things. Teams want new and different players. But there comes a point sometimes where it's just not feasible to get exactly what you want.

The difference is with a house or car or other players, there is almost always another buyer, another team willing to make an offer. Often times there is more than one or two other suitors.

I dont think any other GM is calling Gute to trade for Rodgers. So the Jets can tell Gute to take or leave their offer. Leverage.

Maybe they just don't understand what leverage means or something.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reporting Wednesday that Green Bay has backed off from wanting New York’s 2023 first-round pick as part of the package for Rodgers, 39.

The Jets viewed the Packers’ demands as “irrational” and “unreasonable,” according to Florio.

That doesn't sound like Packers leverage.

If you own a race car that needs a new engine and only 1 high performance system is available, you can choose to compete or you can get blown away at the line and hope everyone else crashes. As the owner of the engine, I know there is a high likelihood that I can hold onto it until one of the other points leaders throws a rod and desperately needs a replacement to stay in contention. Leverage.

I understand asking for the 13th pick and I also understand the Jets saying no way. That’s called negotiation and having leverage doesn’t mean you can get whatever you want.

So it seems pretty clear that a 1st round pick is not happening.

Just give up the 2nd and get this thing over with.

I’m sure the Packers are asking for more than a single 2nd rd pick, and that’s the holdup. I would think they could at least get a conditional pick from 2024 thrown in along with a 2nd this year. That would sort of even things out in the whole “who has leverage” debate.

Yeah this is happening. It is just a matter of who blinks first. Which is likely the Packers.

Usually the team with all the leverage blinks first.
