I'll start -

Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
Why this a fan favorite, I have no idea.

I hate this fucking song, but I really like Pearl Jam.

Anyone else?

Man on The Moon - REM

I just don't like the chord changes, or lack thereof.

"R.V." - Faith No More.

With any Mike Patton project there is implied consent to whatever weirdness he decides he would like to subject the listener to, but this song is just a completely out of place and self-indulgent. It draws additional anger from me for being the only blemish on Angel Dust's awesomeness.

good thread, shirtless driver.

"s-e-x-x-y" by they might be giants. never understood the appeal of this song to make it a single, although the EP is pretty cool. "sensurround" is a great B side.

"devil's haircut" by beck. overplayed, and wasn't a huge fan of it to begin with.

i'll come up with more later...

EXACTLY.

But I gotta say, Zach, what did you mean about the Mellon Collie thing.
I'll hang up and listen for your answer.

you know it's funny that it's brought up, because i always listen to the album around october and december...half of it reminds me of halloween, half of it reminds me of christmas. has something to do with what it meant to me when it came out in '95.

but in listening to it this year, i realized that there are songs i just simply cannot stand on it...and it seems like a lot of them come from the first disc. love songs 1-6, but after that, not a big fan of "fuck you", or "cupid de locke", "porcelina" i thought dragged, and "take me down"...meh.

i guess if i have it on as background noise, i don't have a problem with any of it. some songs still tug at the heartstrings, especially the last song, but when i'm really listening to it, i realize there are songs i just hate on it.

Yeah, I dropped about 8 or 9 songs from it on my Ipod, makes melloncollie much more listenable. I tend to notice this problem with many (nonlive) double albums- lots of filler.

I feel this way about most double albums with The Wall and Quadrophenia being the exceptions. Mellon Collie, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations, Zen Arcade, Exile on Main Street and All Things Must Pass would be brilliant albums if they cut a lot of the bullshit. I'd throw GNR Illusions in as well. I think most of these bands are to high and pompus to pull back on the filler once they get the whole double album concept in their head.

Most early Beach Boys blow.
"Bargain" by the Who
"Brown Eyed Girl" Van Morrison
"Black" Pearl Jam

Thug- How could you?

Eaglo Jeff - exactly.

W_Z - OK, but what about Muzzle?
I also think MCATIS is about 10 songs too long. But Jellybelly owns the whole fucking thing. :drunken:
Pumpkins have about a 60/40 ratio, IMO, of awesome to filler. Corgan doesn't edit himself. Then again, neither does Robert Pollard, and he's a genius as well. I just don't feel the need to be as completist as I once was as a youth.
I just happen to prefer the first disc.
I think Bodies is the gem on the 2nd disc. :drunken:

Sorry, still not sure how to extract certain sentences to quote, but I'm also with Rocks and Blows on Pearl Jam's "Black".
Can't stand it.
It's funny, in a sense, that the most popular PJ songs (at least off of Ten) were the worst songs on the record IMO.
Alive, Black, Jeremy.
Gimme Once and Porch off that record. Throw in Release and I'm good.

Shirtless, I understand your hatred for Yellow Ledbetter. It was essentially Mike and Eddie screwing around in the studio. It was never really meant to be on a record, like most of the bside stuff that was around at that time (like dirty frank). There are no actual lyrics to it. I will always attribute that song to be for many of the morons who jumped on the Pearl Jam bandwagon back in the day and would listen to any shlop they put out. That being said, in the early concerts, it was fun to sing along with.

I'll throw the entire Riot Act CD from Pearl Jam out there.
This may piss some off, but Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood album. I'll never forget listening to that CD and when I got to Without You after just hearing Kickstart My Heart, I couldnt help but think Burrito. Therefore...
Motley Crue, Without You
