Wow, I guess going 0-6 the last two years in the playoffs deserves a 4-year extension...

To my knowledge, Jim Hendry wasn't the guy who walked 7 guys in game one, booted double play balls in game 2, or gave up a HR to Chris Young last year that still hasn't landed.

Now its time for him to earn that money, and make some changes to this group of chokers.

The guy has made his share of mistakes so he's far from perfect, but under his management, the Cubs have at least been to the playoffs in consecutive seasons. He deserved the new paper. Now it's time for him to make some changes, and help this team take the next step.

Jim Hendry is not only General Manager of the Chicago Cubs, he is also an obscenely fat man.
Ha! Ha! Take that, Jimmy!
YES!

Actually, I saw him at the Westin in Cincinatti September the 7th, as I was checking out of the hotel, before going to the game that day. He definitely had lost a considerable amout of weight and looked much fitter. I am very happy to see the guy that put back to back division Champions together, get this extension. He definitely has some work to do, but he's a good GM and I have faith that he will make good moves. Furcal sure would look good at SS, and batting at the top of the order....

As disappointed as I am in this past season, Hendry does deserve this extension.

I will be interested in seeing what moves he makes.

Obviously, what we want to go out there and do is win, ultimately. I try to put the best guys out there on the field. This off season, I intend to make us even stronger, but obviously, we're already strong, and we've made a lot of progress.

We should be in the World Series next October, but obviously if we're not, but we win the division, it will still be historic and Cubs fans should recognize that.

Hendry has spent over $350 mil since the end of the '06 season alone. He has also traded away some very good young talent. He will probably spend at least another $100 mil this offseason to resign Dempster and Wood and to find a leadoff hitter and left handed bat. If you gave those kind of resources to ANY other GM in baseball they will have more to show than an 0-6 record in the post season. I'm sure he wanted to go to Seattle but the Tribune brass said you got us into this mess now get us out.

Why would he want to go to Seattle?

Anything to get the hell outta here. Soaring expectations, soaring payroll, soaring ticket prices. Things could get REAL ugly around wrigleyville next season. But ES still has faith so all will be ok.....

Expectations should rise, when you have 7-8 All-Stars on the team and are repeat division champions. Soaring payroll-the games are sold out almost every day, save for a few weekday contests in April and early May, so they should not have a problem there. Plus, ad revenues should rise, as there was a great increase in ratings for the games this past season. Soaring ticket prices-again, the games still sell out, with 3.3 million last season. So despite the cost, Cubs tickets are in very high demand and will likely remain so, as the club will be very likely to contend again next season. Do I have faith-heck yes. This should be a situation like with the Atlanta Braves, where we win 14 straight division titles, along with a World Series. They have a farm system now that is producing nicely. Why would a guy with a good farm system and a generous payroll, want to walk away? He has a great situation here and has to love being retained, as the Cubs should be happy to retain him.
