i have a sneaky suspicion that palehose 23 is herb lawrence. one he is a sox fan. two he is a producer. three i went to icb around 2002-jan 2003 and i remember seeing a picture of herb lawerence of the graduates who went on to get a radio job. i remember in the summer of 2002 he was producing a remote with j hood and tom thayer at sluggers in wrigleyville and i told him that i saw him as one of the people who got a job after graduating.

If it is Herb Lawrence the Score must not think much of him. He doesn't make the "Personality Page". The only other guy it could be, from the posted pictures, is Jay Zawaski . Unless there are part time producers that the Score doesn't put up on their web site.

I'm sure he's called other people in media or in the movies some choice names. I'm sure he's had some harsh biting critisism of others he doesn't know. Everybody does that. So you can quit with the moral lecture, Palehose.

He's a part of the Score. So it offends him that his buddy, Larry, gets ridiculed. Like I said, he lives in a small world. The Score world. B&B are pretty crude. Palehose probably laughs when they blast people and "name call". Why? Cuz it's not personal to him. The people B&B ridicule are distant to him. So it's not immature to him. It's fun and entertaining radio.

I've offened wondered if Mitch criticizes his talent when it comes to their shows. I suspect no. I also think that all of the guys at the Score tell each other how great they all are. Larry tells Drinky and Goff that are great. Drinky and Goff tell Larry how wonderfull he is. The producers tell the hosts that they are great. They all get together at bars and everybody sings the praises of everybody at the Score.

Look at Pappy. The guy was horrible for years. Yet, on his way out, Pappy said good things about Mitch. So Mitch never criticized him. If he never critizized Pappy then he doesn't criticize anybody.

It's natural. They are all friends. They are the Score. I think Palehose only thinks it's funny when crude behavior is done on the Score. Or when the hosts take shots at people. Then it's OK. Then it's funny. If a listener criticizes the Score it's because a host hung up on him. That's what they all think. That's what they all have convinced themselves.

I'll bet this is the only place they get criticized. I'm sure it is. Our media columnists never really attack on air talent. It's a buddy system. I think when they read some of what's said here it shocks them. Cuz it's one big circle jerk at the Score. Everybody tells everybody how great they are. When they read otherwise they are floored.

The thing is, if Palehose looks at what the Score has done for 16 years, a lot of times, it's no different then what's done here.

Reading like listening is a Skill RodeoVann here is a portion of my last post which you somehow missed.

If you have listened to the score for all these years you would know exactly who I am. I don't hide, you can come to most of the remotes and see me.

To another posters point about the Score not thinking much of Herb Lawrence (Am I him) because he is not on the Personalities Page. The most talented and best producer at the Station is not on that page and his name is Joe Ostrowski.

I have already told you that I am not a GOOD person so talking bad about a person on a post is par for the course for me. I am a grown ass man so no I do not enjoy Boers and Bernstein but the people are cool. I am more of a fan of the radio genius Dan Mcneil and his show because he gets it.

Why I like Laurence is simple- He speaks exactly how I do about sports. He has fun with his callers (those who get it). He lets producers produce and grab mic whenever they have something to contribute. Your favorite segment The Pulse is the only chance on the whole station for you to call up and speak about what you want (he is letting you program the show). The opens on the show are the best in the city and nobody on the station does a daily open like Matt Weber.

I love that term, its like there are only a select few people who are smart enough to realize the greatness on Loho. people who us that term in radio for sure have bad ratings or are trying to cover up the fact that they are asswipes. Its also a simple way to back out of having to answer a question honestly or give a answer with some thought. I love dan and terry and they use that phrase all the time, to this day, they havent given the answer to what it is we do or dont get, its a easy out.

Palehose, if Laurence is so great, why did it take him 8 years and a buddy PD to finally get his own show, if Rosen isnt there, Laurence doesnt have a gig. I like Laurence to a point, but he is trying to be mini-bernsie, just like when he was trying to be mni-jhood back in the day, that reflects poorly on him. I hope Loho does great, I really do, but this show with the studdering bear, its going to be a death spiral for the shows life span, hope I a wrong, but I dont think so.

People who get Larry? What the fuck does that mean? That implies that he's doing some creative radio. It implies that only smart people can figure out what the great Larry is doing. I'm sure that's what he tells you, Palehose. You beleive it cuz he's your friend and you're not very smart. We figured out what Larry has told Palehose. He's told him that the only people who don't like him are those he has hung up on and those that don't get him. It's not that complicated, Palehose. Like Rodeo said, that's the way bad hosts justify being bad.

I get Larry. He's doing a sports talk show. He's talking sports. You act like he's doing creative Howard Stern radio. I get that he's yelling "The Pulse" like it's ground breaking when all it is is taking calls. I get that everything is amazing to him. I get that he's phony. I get that he's not that funny when he trys to be funny. Still don't like him despite getting him.

Is it the same with Hampton, Palehose? Is it a matter of getting him as well? Is there some genious to that stutter that us lowley listeners don't get?

Maybe it's the anticipation factor. We're on pins and needles waiting for the words to come to Hampton's brain. Hamp doesn't have a stutter. He's doing that on purpose. I figured it out. That is genious!!!!

This little "you know me. come see me. if you have listed" thing just makes it look like you are looking for attention (well that and making the puppets dance ) I'll stick by what I said (somewhat) seriously in response to Webby. If Larry (awww sorry Larry I didn't mean to hurt you feelings. Ok, sorry that was lame ) Laurence would go back to being "bears beat laurence" or the old "Me and Z" Laurence I would listen to him every day. Every once in a while I give Holmes and Hamp a try, but it's just not happenin. You've got a great show down the dial and 95% of the time that's where I'm parked.

You must hate the people who work at the score for the most part, because "hate" is what most of them do, hating on the listener, teams and athletes, glass houses pale, glass houses.

I don't normally like to play this card, but there's a lot of pretty smart people on this board. One's a U of C graduate. Another one graduated from Stanford. Just about every school in the Big 10 is represented: Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan (I think), Ohio State (I think); those are some pretty good schools. We've got one guy who teaches at a Big 10 affiliate university. Just about everyone on here writes with proper (or proper-ish) grammar; you don't see any ESPN type "packers suck suckas !!!1!!!!" comments on here. I think we're pretty representative of sports fans who "get it." And yet none of us really care for Laurence Holmes.

I think we've elucidated some of the reasons why. The Pulse is pretty much a waste of time, or at least the explaining and presenting of the "segment" is a waste of time. "Subliminal song" was painfully, painfully bad radio. Not "so bad it's funny", but so bad that I'm switching the station. He's not particularly adept at analyzing any sport, and his observations are utterly pedestrian. Finally, he loses any charisma he might possibly have when he gets off on a tangent about how hot some woman is, or how sexy it is when women he knows where pink hats or football jerseys, or anything like that. It's not fun radio.

If we're wrong, why do the ratings bear us out? If we're wrong, why has Holmes been in training since I was in high school? If we're wrong, why did The Score have to bring in a jock with minimal radio experience to assist with a two hour show rather than let their perpetual B-list personality just have the low-pressure slot to himself?

For the record: I don't particularly care who you are. There've been quite a few on air personalities who have joined us here- Mac, Cy, Matt Abbattacola, Rongey, Mully and Hanley (in chat form), Silvy, Rock, Jason Goff, now Tim Bock. But the people tend to be a lot more respectful of the personalities who come on here and take some criticism by their real names, even if they disagree with the criticism. You may not particularly care about that, but considering that you've acted like a jerk and invited people to play "guess the personality", every person who was guessed is going to have a google hit on their name associated with you being an ass. Employers are none too keen on preemptively pissing off listeners, from what I hear.
