You have no evidence of that. The Steelers just paid Johnson. They weren't going to pay 2 receivers. There was a market for Claypool, and the Steelers took the Bears 2nd round pick over the Packers 2nd and 4th.

Only guy on the roster with da fire and da pashun.

Only person on the field who showed a pulse during that pathetic showing in Detroit.

I think part of it was his frustration with Fields ignoring him while he was open on nearly every play. You need someone who isn't cool with bending over for the Lions.

The Steelers chose to pay Johnson, drafted a round later, because he's a better receiver than Claypool

Also, Poles knew he was going to tank the roster and that could be a very high pick so not an excuse. I get it, Fields started exploding with some big games and he had to do something after refusing to address the position in Free Agency so he overcompensated with draft capital, a very Ryan Pace like move

The Steelers paid Johnson because his contract was up and he's a Tomlin guy. He got targeted more, but I'm not sure he's a better receiver. You wouldn't be happy if our #1 receiver was targeted 150 times but only had 800 yards. In fact, Johnson has only had 1 good season and was targeted almost 200 times that season. His ypc has been below 11 every season of his career.

Are you happy with a wr that catches 57% of passes?

When Poles acquired him you said he was "a solid #2 who could turn into a #1."

The only solid number two here is you, Bob.

I'm satisfied with a 14+ ypc when his quarterback had a worse arm than Chad Pennington. I'm satisfied with a guy who was top 10 in the NFL in contested catches. I'm satisfied with a guy who in a brief time proved he could beat #1 corners and cause DPI's.

I’m gonna Juergen the shit out of his talent evaluation.

Verdict in…bad.

Did he not take Carter because he raced a car?
Or did he not take him because he thinks his work ethic sucks.
Because if it's the former, he's a giant pussy. If it's the latter, it's still kinda iffy. He fell right into his lap. Seems like all of Philly is happier than a pig in shit.

He must have wanted Wright awfully badly to not have gone down more than one spot.

He seems like a guy who is very disciplined and is not willing to take unnecessary risks at this stage of the team development. I don't know if it will work, but I find it refreshing.

I think Paris Johnson Jr and Wright were probably the top 2 tackles on his board.

Really? I think he jumped the gun on trading out of #1.

He has bypassed talent at positions of extreme need with each of his first picks (Pickens and Carter), even when that talent has fallen to the point where the risk is minimized.

He has whiffed on his primary focus in each of his two years for budgetary discipline, even when he had the money.

These weren't unnecessary risks. They were very manageable risks

The fear was some other team would get a better haul than the Bears got for the #1 pick. That literally did not happen, but you still have issues with it. That says more about your expectations than reality, my friend.

The Bears had the worst secondary in the NFL before Poles arrived. I think that was more of a need than WR. Also, I suspect he valued Watson more and the Packers traded up to get him. Carter was not worth the risk at 9.

Who said he whiffed this year? He targeted linebackers and got them. It is unrealistic to expect anyone to get every player they desire.

Cards got a very similar haul with #3 AND two QB already off the board.

The haul was not similar, and the Bears weren't going from 1 to 12. The only reason that quarterback was off the board was because the Texans drafted him. The Cards got what the Bears would have hoped for at #2. It was significantly less than the Bears received for the #1 pick unless we now believe Moore sucks.

Cards receive:
#12
#33
2024 1st
2024 3rd

Cards giveaway:
#3
#105

Bears receive:
Moore
#9
#61
2024 1st
2024 4th*
2025 2nd

Bears giveaway:
#1

You may be proven right in time, who knows, but you certainly can't definitely say Carter wasn't worth the risk before he ever plays a snap. He may turn out to be a game-wrecker, in which case he certainly will have been worth the risk.

I'm just offering my opinion. None of us know for sure about any of these guys. I didn't like him before he abandoned his friend and teammate while he was dying or gained 20 pounds in a week before his pro day.

Watched a few interviews with Carter and you can instantly tell he is still and immature kid at this point as most of us are at that age, but most of us were not interviewing for million dolllar jobs at that age.

The most damning stuff was supposedly that his coaches at Georgia did not speak highly of him, he also failed the private workout which was likely they last straw for the Bears.

He still could develop into an outstanding player and went to the right place in Philly where they have several Pro Bowl level players on the defensive line that he will respect and try to emulate, the Bears do not have anyone on the roster like that yet.

I think the work out they put him through where he showed up overweight and basically quit in it was the telling factor for the Bears. I think they went into that wanting to convince themselves to take him considering how important that position is for their D. But they do not want to gamble with such a high pick. So we will see. Poles will either look like a genius or an idiot. TIme will tell.

I'm satisfied with how Poles has done thus far with rebuilding this team. To me, bringing Moore and Claypool into the offense, coupled with bringing in the best right tackle prospect in the draft is a great thing. Now they need to concentrate mostly to bolster the defensive line and lbs and they will probably be active to move up in the draft for the defensive line additions and move back for the lbs and secondary.

A part of me does wonder how Carter will do going forward? I don't think that Poles was willing to risk the real possibility of Carter being a bust while the Eagles have an already great defense who have actually played with Carter and have maybe more confidence that their locker room is full of seasoned legit good players? Right now, I'd say that on paper, the Eagles have the best defense in the NFL for sure.
