This kind of heavy rain is unprecedented for the Chicago-land region for the month of April. Are we willing to have that Climate Change discussion now?

Didn’t we just have the rainiest April ever last year or two years ago?

I should have worded that post better. 127 reports of tornadoes. Clearly some of these was the same storm being reported multiple times. Survey teams will verify exactly how many in the coming days, but it appears that its possible around 90 separate tornadoes occurred across 11 different states on Friday and into early Saturday morning.[/quote]

112 confirmed tornadoes from the system last Friday/saturday. 5th largest tornado outbreak in history.

Sounds quantum. Photons are a wave unless they are observed. Then they are a tornado.

You have to actively try to be this stupid and this incorrect all of the time. You're not even right by accident every now and then.

Here's an update on where we stand with damage surveys from the March 31st severe weather event. As it stands right now, we have confirmed a total of 22 tornadoes in our forecast area and are still investigating a handful of additional locations. The 22 tornadoes are tied for the most to ever occur in a calendar day within the 23 counties that we serve in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

I assume the damage surveys said 22 tornadoes caused damage?

The damage Bob inflicts upon the world by speaking and posting is far greater than any tornado.

I'm off of 80 but probably closer to the river than I am to 39. I was up north near Sterling today getting parts and had a mile of driving that was like this on a back road. Good advertisement for no till or cover crops right now out there.

As all the smaller "family" farms become larger and larger corporate farms, every fencerow, tree line and hedgerow is removed. There is nothing to slow down the wind for miles. Last winter, was driving I-80 through Iowa, and there were the melting remains of snow drifts along the fences. They were black from all the topsoil that had blown off the fields with the snow.

This was caused by a farmer tilling his soil?

Soil won't blow as much if there is something growing on it or at least roots from previous crop holding the soil together. Over time the soil also "crusts" which protects it from the wind a bit. But there are lots of things that impact this. Soil type, timing, geography, some would say chemical practices but I don't know about that. With the elimination of hedge rows as farm field have gone from 40 acre homesteads, to 160 quarters full sections and more with no trees the wind does have a lot less obsticals. Even a simple row of old Osage orange trees and fence ever 1/4 mile would catch a lot of this dirt and slow the wind.

So.. Whether this accident down south was dirt blowing off a field that was plowed last winter to get ahead, or worked up and planted in last couple weeks I can't say. That it was blowing off a field that wasn't in no till system and covered in winter rye.. Yeah.. Can be pretty sure of that. Also the mile stretch of dirt I drove through up north of here there was no farmer in the field. Where there were farmers tilling it was dusty but nothing like that.
