Really was, especially in that 6th inning with a nice play from Andrus. I pretty much figured it was going to be 5-4 Royals after that inning.

Looks like he was auditioning for a trade to a contender to me. It was letting the ball fly and not holding things back to save his arm and looked like the pitcher he was a couple of years ago. I guess this is the lot of the modern day pitchers these days. I liked to watch Giolitto pitch when Katz got to him after they got him in. I really think that IF they worked with Lambert a bit and stretched him out he could be Giolitto-lite.

Andrus, despite not hitting like he did last year and for his career, is what a pro base ball player should be all about. He isn't r flashy but knows how to play the game and doesn't give away at bats or try to do things he can't do. He reminds me a bit of Juan Uribe who was a very valuable player for a lot of really good baseball teams for his career.

It's hard for me to give up on high IQ pitching pitchers. When they're healthy, I always enjoy watching them. Buehrle, Sirotka, those are my guys. It pains me when I have to argue Buehrle was overrated, because the guy got 100.1% out of what he had.

Giolito was my guy. He was my favorite pitcher on the Sox even when he was getting his ass kicked in 2019. His stuff is great. His mentality at times seems to be maddening. I'm probably too hard on him because he's still a pretty good pitcher, but he ain't worth $200 million. No sir.

EDIT- 2018

His stuff was great. It isn't anymore. It's why he added another changeup two years ago and has worked on his slider last off season. He adds weight, he loses weight, he tries every trick in the book. It's admirable. What about his mentality is maddening?

That's been lacking the past few years. I know you guys said below that his stuff has been off, but he's such a headcase out there. Wasn't expecting it.

Trade him today.

Zack Greinke is a head case. How'd his career go?

Get outs.

 I'll take the under on 76 WAR and 220+ MLB wins on Giolito.

Clarify: Giolito loses his composure like a kid would

Greinke is probably a HOFer

This is what I meant. I don't doubt he adds/loses weight and works on pitches in the offseason to try and get better. He certainly doesn't seem like a guy who half asses it.

MANY times he'll be 0-2 1-2 and give up a walk. Then a hit. Then a HBP. Then another walk. Then a double. And sure this happens to even the best pitchers from time to time, but Giolito seems to suffer from the John Danks/Danny Wright big inning more often than most. He also generally tends to unravel when the Sox give the opposing team an extra out. Now on the Sox they have 4 out innings just about every game if not twice a game, so yeah he's going to be in the situation more than other guys, but still. Sometimes your defense helps you out (as I mentioned Andrus last night), and sometimes as the pitcher you have to simply overcome an error and pick up your defense. Your guy Buerhle would just tap himself on the chest as if to say, "don't worry I got you,' after an error occurred behind him.

Last night was one of the only times in recent history that I can recall where Giolito was in an enormous jam- bases loaded, 1 out, 2-0 count- and give up zilch.

I love(d) Lucas Giolito. I wish he were better. He'll almost assuredly get a mega deal where he makes $20-25+ million a season from somebody. Best of luck to him and that team.

Big time. But the point isn't his big mouth or his salary or his frustration. Frankly, I don't blame any Sox player for wanting to blow town. Good or bad players.

It was always going to end this way with Lynn. He put no care into extending his career

I wonder if they’re even considering DFA’ing Lynn.

Pitching staff has a 5.71 ERA Fangraphs advanced ranking 27th
The hitters have a .238 .302 .386 split Ranking 25th
Team defense no advanced stats yet but they are 22nd in fielding percentage.

20 guys have a 0 WAR or less. A few are gone. Some notables are Cease, Anderson, and Benitendi.

Gavin Sheets and Adam Haseley are top 5 players on this team. Sad!

Catching is a black hole. The only reason Grandal is a negative WAR is because he's TERRIBLE BEHIND THE PLATE. He can't catch and now he can't throw. Jesus Christ, enough already.

And fix Cease. He's got no command because he has no balance. He drifts to the 1st base side, that's fine, but you can't 'fall' to the 1st base side. He has to counteract that drift with his back leg.

123 games left . They need to go 68-55 ( .552 ) to get to .500 for the year .

This is probably the kiss of death, but if you’re a betting man Clevenger is 9-0 sub two ERA against Kansas City in his career. Might not be a bad idea to lay the lumber on the Sox today.

If anyone would know disappointment, it's Caller Bob and his parents.
