anyone going to see them tomorrow @ reggie's?
i've been a fan for a while, picking up their old 7"s on sight after i first heard "no pasaran / circling the drain" back when i actually followed that sort of thing. their first lp, "hidden world" is a total stunner... the kind of record that i think people in the know will be pointing to as a landmark album decades from now. getting away from all the superficial bullshit people like to talk about, this band and their long-players represent, to me, both the pinnacle and the death of punk rock as a mode of expression. what's great is that's what i think they were going for when they recorded "hidden world."
i'm just a few tracks into their newest, "the chemistry of common life" and it already sounds too much like a parody of "hidden world" for me to get too excited about, but i'll be interested to see how these songs translate live and, more importantly, how far this new stuff sinks in or slides off.
