I was thinking since we always get this lul right now where theres not a got damn thing to watch on the television we should push the start of the NBA season back to late January. This would allow us to have the playoffs in July right and have football start right after that. I have some pull around the league and think I can make this happen but wanted to clear it with you guys first. LIGHT EM UP

Mostly because it sucks. Most of these dipshits wearing MLB uniforms don't have a clue what winning baseball is. Lots of the fans with their heads stuck in a laptop don't either.

It took Grifol until June 3 to mention First Pitch Strike, like "wow, what a new concept, I didn't know that shit works"

Baseball is more boring to watch than golf and that's saying a fucking lot.

Baseball used to be a game where you could guess along with every pitch and play, now it's just guys trying to throw the ball as hard as they can with every pitch and dudes trying to hit a home run every swing, then you throw in teams like the White Sox that play little league level defense and you have a very tedious game where it's either a strike out or home run.

Start the league on Christmas Day (like the 2011-2012 season) or New Year's Day. New Year's Day would be perfect. Starting any later -- you'd interfere with the start of college football and possibly the NFL.

The thing is that basketball is unwatchable for me. The amount of money that a majority of these prima donna selfish players make has made it that way to me. Post play is gone and three ball shooting is the norm. Boring as shit.

Used to be, "hey, a guy on third with one out, surely the hitter is gonna try to make contact, we should have a play at the plate...oh, Schwarber just took three hacks at eye high fastballs and struck out", or "a guy on first with nobody out and the number 9 hitter is up, will the manager try to hit and run or bunt the guy over...oh, the number 9 hitter just waived and missed at three eye high fastballs", they have pretty much taken any and all strategy out of the game and made it home run derby.

Basketball like hockey is a winter sport.

You could lop off the first month of the NBA season and start it around Thanksgiving. From when I've
had season tickets, you could hardly give em away the first month of the season but then once the holidays rolled around peeps with kids would wanna tag along to take their kid(s) to the games--over the holiday school breaks esp. NBA games are fun no matter what, unless your team really sucks. But they jazz things up a bit for the holidays. it sorta gets you in festive mood attending the games between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

About 16 games are played the first month--you could drop em but if Ike wants hoops through the Summer, you could push the regular season out a month the other way. I think proposals to reduce the number of games mostly assume the same calendar length of season and simply spreads fewer games across the same number months.

Given the money involved, i don't see em dropping October/November games. I could see inserting a mid-season tournament and then pushing the season out a few weeks to a month--there's definitely an appetite for more sports up until NFL training camps start. Any overlap between NBA owners and MLS (is there any?) owners could impact expanding the NBA season into the summer. MLS owners are hyper-aware of competition for their product and go to great lengths to avoid it--mostly by playing the games in cities and venues no one's ever heard of.

I don't know if you guys hear, but the NFL now owns Christmas Day like it does Thanksgiving.

I don't care about the money. I want the athletes to be set for life. So much un/underpaid work goes into playing even one game on an NBA roster that I want even the end of the bench guy to be able to be comfortable.

I did prefer when the NBA was dominated by centers. Just like we love football for the physical freakiness of the players, the same is for basketball. I like my NBA like I like my porn, two 7 foot guys banging.

We'll find out next year. My guess is they will try.

I don't really care when NBA or NHL starts, but the fact there there are 6+ weeks of playoff games and the Champion isn't crowned until mid and sometimes late June is insane. No reason to be playing after Memorial Day. Same with baseball post Halloween, and even that's too late.

I think that's a safe bet. They had great rating last year.

NFL basically walked up to the NBA and took their lunch.

Tuesday is pretty easy.

Wednesday will take some work. 4 teams probably need to play on Thursday the week before and then they play again that next Wednesday as the start of the next week.

So, they'd have 3 weeks of:
Sunday at noon(or Saturday night)
Thursday at night
Wednesday at night
10 days off before the play again

NBA Christmas sucks anyway. Would much rather have football. That is a pivotal week for many teams

The thing about the NBA games is that they are so meaningless in the big picture, they are great background to the festivities of the day.

That's true too. But what brings a family together more than a bunch of dudes and one girl yelling at the TV ignoring all the other bored females in the house

It's a shame that the NBA Finals are not just 1 game. Because having the Final on July 4 at 6pm Eastern would be fantastic.

But otherwise, the NBA can start the day after the AFC/NFC Championship games.

baseball is the most boring to watch and the most ridiculous schedule.

nba i do agree, start in january, but just lop off the first two months. and stretch the season out a bit to give players more rest between games for a better performance, and to make the finals start in july.

fuck hockey its also stupid.

nfl has the best schedule and the most exciting play. but if the NBA cut their season down they would have the most entertainment pound for pound. it's just insane to watch those guys when they are playing at their maximum.

Baseball is the most egregious since there's spring training and games played goes in to the thousands in a course of a year.

MLB plays double the amount of NBA/NHL games over roughly the same timeframe for their regular season, and their playoffs are only half as long.

NHL and NBA also start their training camps and preseason games in September.

Most baseball players put in about 10 minutes of physical activity in a game. Pitchers only play about 20% of the time.

Start the NBA in September with a one-month regular season. Start the playoffs in October. Done by the end of December. Extrapolate that for the NHL on January 1st; SC finals done by end of April.

Steak.
Dinner.
Boom.
