This is a problem with our criminal justice system: we sentence these criminals to 6 months and they only serve 3 weeks.

It's a disgrace that we accept assault and rape as parts of a prison sentence.

County lockups are notoriously more randomly dangerous than regular state prisons. Although they should make an effort to avoid their charges getting butt-fucked to death.


Last time I got arrested in Chicago they took me to a satellite police station on the west side just to keep me detained until they could transfer me to like 18th street and Indiana or something to get booked. And then after getting booked they went around and peaked in our individual holding cells and had us lift our shirts to check for tattoos. If you had ink and were affiliated they'd assign you to specific cell blocks over at 26th.

Being sans tattoos I was left behind and made to wait until all the other detainees were cleared out for either release or county and then they came back opened my cell door and told me to gtfo. I was like, it's 4:30 AM on the (sorta) south side, i have no wallet, no cell phone...they shrugged and looked bored. I ended up lucking out and getting a cab; cabbed it back and made the cabbie wait while I went upstairs to get money to pay the fare.

Criminal mischief, disturbing the peace, it was a bar scuffle. They even had criminal trespassing on the list of charges, for some reason. I think those are the only charges they can levy without a complaining party, i.e., the other side.

4:30 is a pretty safe hour

Not having been locked up longer than an hour or two in the 8th district I never got the county jail things. Getting raped by men or broom sticks is weird enough. Dying for anything other than being a famous bad cop or child predator seems nonsensical.

yeah, i recall it being quiet, almost peaceful outside as I started hiking north toward the big buildings of the loop. The cab that picked me up went by once or twice before finally taking pity on me and giving me a ride. He might've had a fare the first time and not expected to see me still trudging on the same street on his way back to the loop and then empty doubled back to scoop me up, once he found out where I was headed.

I think being stone-cold sober made it out of the ordinary for me. I spent my 20's and early part of my 30's going to parties in any part of town, from Detroit to Chicago to SE DC/Cincy/Galesburg/ North Philly to the Ukie hall for Low-B and Diplo's early Hollertronix jawns (Philly's fucking scary)...even lower Manhattan for all ages parties in the 90's, before Rudy cleaned it up. If I had a gram in one pocket, a flask of whiskey in the other and a head full of pills, I'd have been unconcerned about time of day or place.

Predatory people in those places, looking to take down the weak gazelle. Alvis looked pampers soft. Someone probably gave him a free candy bar his first night in there; which mistaking it for an act of kindness he swallowed the bait. and then when they came back to collect from his first commissary take told him there was interest and it escalated from there.
