It's going to cost you a few million.

One day after struggling against the second-team defense in the two-minute drill, Fields opened the 7-on-7 period with a pass to the right side that was ticketed for DJ Moore. The pass missed the mark, and safety Jaquan Brisker picked it off and took it back for a score. Brisker ran almost all the way to the weight room as the defense celebrated a takeaway they hope is a sign of things to come for the second-year safety.

PJ Walker is going to light it up in December after Fields tears his ACL isn't he?

Yeah but did they talk about how he's put up almost 400 rushing yards on these guys in those same 7 on 7 drills?

Trying to stay positive as its not even training camp yet. It certainly seems like the pressure on Fields is ramped up all over the media. Hopefully he can handle it.

I was talking to a woman and the subjects of the Bears then Justin Fields came up. She went on how great Fields was. I said "you realize he's a great runner, has a high potential ceiling, but is one of the worst passers in the league?" The look on her face.

She was correct.

Shouldn't the correct call be that Field should retire? You want to be able to walk during the HOF induction. Why risk that by playing more years than he needs to? I agree with you that his greatness should be respected and that he's got nothing left to prove after his illustrious career.

If your passing game can't dominate in minicamp 7-on-7s against a suspect defense, you've got problems....

Heard someone talking about Kyle Shanahan and how everywhere he's coached (as asst or HC) he's managed to design offenses and plays that unlock the most from whatever QB he has to work with. He got Kirk Cousins an insane contract in DC, made Matty Ryan MVP, took Garoppolo to NFC Championship games and the Super Bowl, turned Mr Irrelevant into the 2nd coming of Tom Brady...but he's giving up on Trey Lance? Maybe there are QB's who no matter what you try you can't scheme to make them NFL good in the passing game.

Haugh was pretty hard on Fields this morning. Didn't feel like his accuracy had improved in short and middle of the field passing.

I missed that. It's not a good sign if Milktoast Haugh is going after you. Yikes.

I thought the implied complaint this week was that they thought he was healthy but he’s insisting he has a soft tissue injury.

Silvy heard rumors the front office isn't happy with his off season work both physically and mentally

Retire? The kid is just getting started. He's going to be just fine as a quarterback assuming the coaching staff doesn't fuck it up.

Bears Offense:

Mooney can't play because he's still hurt 6 months after his injury.
Claypool won't play because he's a head case.
Bears fans won't want Fields to play because he still can't pass.

Let's get started on 2024 draft talk!

Outside of Calib Williams and Drake Maye, who is your guy?

If Fields is bad enough that you have to pull the trigger your pick will be high enough to package it with the Carolina picks and move up to grab Maye.

Would much rather throw cap room and picks and trade for a vet if you can't get Maye or Williams, they are trying to build the offense up to the point that competent QB play will suffice, not sure that Fields gets how much pressure he is under to produce this year.

NFL defensive coordinators will test him and his young offensive line early and often, can expect them to take away the run and blitz him endlessly until he proves he can make the right read and throw an accurate forward pass.

The CHGO podcast from yesterday discusses how receivers are routinely breaking open downfield during 7-on-7s, but Fields is holding onto the ball or checking down. It doesn't sound like Fields is progressing much, if at all.

Adam Hoge talked about him seemingly making the right reads, but still being indecisive. I could live with 50 interceptions in practice if it gets him over this mental block.

His problems seem to be both mental and physical.

Aside from the slow reads, he also drops back slowly, and his throwing motion is still "elbowy"--at least based on the recent pictures I've seen from OTAs.
