PR stunt. The crew are currently at the Best Western Airport in St John's eating chinese take out, watching netflix and discussing what they're going to do with all the clout they'll accrue once they go back out into the water to be heroically "rescued".

i was just reading that even if this thing bobbed up to the surface, the chances of finding it are minuscule, and that they couldnt even pop the hatch for air if they did surface - they are secured in from the outside by 17 bolts. fuck that shit

Once you recognize that you're in trouble and only have so much oxygen remaining, no choice but to kill the other 4 crew members before they suck up all your precious air.

I think it's ridiculous that we can't map or find anything in our oceans. The technology should exist by now. What are we hiding down there? What are we afraid of?

a lot of classic sitcoms had episodes where people got trapped in a meat locker/freezer that locked from the outside (Brady Bunch, Three's Company)

Don't forget that very special Punky Brewster where Cheri got trapped in a refrigerator.

i haven't seen Punky Brewster in forever

A variant is the ol' "trapped in the basement while everyone else is gone for a long time"- All in the Family, Family Ties

The fridge thing could have easily been a PSA about not playing in refrigerators from the 50's when you find them in the junkyard. My brain is a little on the shot side, sometimes.

It's not like you get to go out and walk on the titanic. The sub doesn't look like it even has windows. You travel down 12,000 feet to see the titanic through a camera. I can do that right now on youtube.....

because they come back and brag to the world how they went to see the titanic in a sub. so all the people they employee can fake kiss their ass telling them how great they are. that's why they do it.

GPS doesn't work.

Supposedly, they have ways to force the sub to surface in the event of a catastrophic mechanical failure, involving releasing some of the weight that
it is used to get the submersible to sink. One of these engages, even if the crew loses consciousness.

So, it's possible the sub has or will surface. Then the coast guard will have to find a white cylinder in the middle of the ocean amid all the whitecaps. Maybe
they should have painted the mini-sub a different color than WHITE. But the crew cannot get out of it on their own. They have to be freed.
