While there is truth to this, Subaru popularity has grown pretty well beyond the Lesbians. My wife and step-daughter both have Crosstreks. My son drives an Imprezza hatchback. For cars in the "reasonable price range", they are as good as it gets. I absolutely love our Crosstrek.

My mom has had a few foresters over the last 25 years and they've been great. Our neighbor who is about 6'5 has always had trouble fitting in cars and he loves his, I think it's a Crosstrek. My husband bought an outback a few years ago he's happy with it. He's on the tallish side and I wouldn't say he has back issues but he drive a few hours at a time quite a bit and it's comfortable for him. When he traveled he got a lot of rental cars and grew to really like them. It costs less in gas than our other 2 cars and way less in maintenance and what not. I feel like with in the last 15 years Subaru became what Honda and Toyota were in the 80/90s.

Of the luxury brands I've liked Volvo and Audis the best.

I drive a Honda Passport. I don’t feel too gay in it, but I don’t love it either. There are some good mid ranged options in this category but depending on how decked out you want it you are looking $45-50k

the new Blazer EV looks to be a home run. I wouldn't consider it if I didn't have a garage to keep it charged every night, but since I do, I will be looking at getting one. Most likely wait another year so I can get one for 10k off or whatever.

Subaru Forester is really the one that is stereo-typical Lesbian car. We just saw one this week at our local Mariano's with a bunch of liberal bumper stickers, which included my favorite...."ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE"

Our Crosstrek is a 2017, so it has a lot of life remaining. I would bet when it's time to retire it, she'll go one step up to the Outback. I wish Subaru made a full-size pickup truck. I'd buy it immediately.

eh... in my Montana days the Outback was pretty much an indicator as well... Usually two middle aged women and a pack of dogs in back. But that was 25 years ago. My wife is kicking around getting a run around car. I think the crosstreck was on the list she was looking at. She didn't like my idea of a 1/2 ton pick up.

a few years back we were looking for a car. I'm a taller guy so fitting into a sedan comfortably can be challenging, and the prices on the larger SUV's were more than I wanted to handle. We have a good history with Toyota, and the salesman we were dealing with asked if we had ever considered a pickup truck. I always liked the idea of having one but my wife wasn't really on board with it, but the guy told us to test drive the Tacoma and the Tundra, and at that time both of them, and in particular the Tacoma, were readily available and more affordable than any of their SUV options. My wife drove the Tacoma, loved it, I fit in it well, and we went with it. It has been a great little truck and very handy to have. It looks like a toy compared to the monster trucks on the roads these days but it drives great, has 4WD and didn't break the bank.

I've had a Tacoma since September 2019. It's drives like my Mom walks....slow as hell. I have no concerns on it's reliability and it will last a long time, but I really regret not getting the Tundra, or a lower trim model with the traditional 6.5' bed. The 5.5' bed on this thing is too short. Tacomas are now incredibly popular....very few available and I could likely sell it for what I paid for it brand new, which is nuts (yargh!). As much I'm as I'm tempted to sell it and get the truck I really want, I'm going to take the better financial decision and just drive it into the ground for it's full life.

agreed on the bed being short. It hasn't been too much of a problem since im not usually hauling a lot of big stuff around but a larger bed could have been handy in a few situations. not enough to make me buy a bigger more expensive truck though.

300k miles on my ranger. By the time I finally let it go, 13 years and I bought it 5 years old already. 10k investment overall throughout it's life. Fucking bargain. Never left me stranded.

Then I bought a 5 year old Acura MDX. 12k$. It's now 11 years old and 220k miles, and the fucker still runs like new. I might take this one to 400k.

Having cars for this long makes the upgrade way more fun too.

I bought a 2023 Forrester in February. Head, leg, and hip room is outstanding for the driver, and the back seat goes flat without me having to move my seat up. I've already put 9500 miles on it in five months because I'm not taking any plane-based vacations this year, so I'm spending my retirement meandering around a 275 mile radius of my home about once a week. The only challenge is that the front seats are rather hard, so I have to either use a thin pad or turn the heated seat on low, or else my sciatica flares up after a couple of hours.

The Mazda CX-5 was my second choice but it was just too narrow even though the actual drive was peppier.

Seat comfort has degraded substantially for non luxury makes over the last 10 to 15 years. I had a 2011 Camry that had plush and extremely comfortable front seats. When I was shopping for a car at the end of 2018, I could not a find a basic transportation mid sized sedan with similar seats. I think it's one area where they have chosen to cut costs.

It's all mpg's now. Any non luxury car is stripped down to the minimal materials to save weight.

Also the airbags in the sides of the seats are taking up weight as well as changing the shape of the seats.

I remember reading an engineer talking about (I think) the corvette and how every safety feature added meant they had to find some other place to save weight for performance. Talked about different materials and the like in that situation for performance sake but I imagine it would be the same for MPG that weight matters. Also explains the moves towards smaller engines with turbos vs V-8s and the like.
