Animal House anticipated the rise of Reaganist pop culture via its attempt to aesthetically contain the radicalism of "the 60s" by defining the era in terms of radical hedonism rather than opposition to various expressions of the status quo. This project was later taken up, extended, and revised most famously by John Hughes in his teen romantic comedies, particularly The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller. Risky Business, though not a Hughes film, is also an excellent example of this undertaking. From this perspective, Say Anything, the last "great" 80s teen romantic comedy, can also be understood as a critique of the Reaganist aesthetic that informs the subgenre.

Quote:
Another player, who asked to remain anonymous and played through the 2009 season, said racism on the team was often blatant. He alleged head coach Pat Fitzgerald would ask Black players and coaches to cut off longer hairstyles — including dreadlocks — so that they were more in line with what Fitzgerald called the “Wildcat Way.” The first anonymous player said that white players who had long hairstyles were not asked to alter their appearances.

Well that's just asking for trouble.

Pitchforks are out for Fitzy.

LoHo called him a ‘dastardly guy,’ which is - appropriately - the gayest way to describe his actions here.

"Hi" was more of an invitation or command than I realized

Even as a certified SJW I don't find it credible enough to get worked up over yet. I'm sure it's possible, and if more comes out great (well not great for the dry humpees), but whatever. This wouldn't have happened if they were allowed to unionize!

Outrage over locker room dry-humping is justified because that doesn't entertain Brick and bernstein the way concussions, paralyzations, and sudden deaths on Saturday afternoons do.

How many horses died at the Kentucky Derby this year?

Zero. Horses do die though. Did you have a dog when you were a kid? Is he still alive?

But now you're equating horses to human beings just like you equated grown men doing stupid shit to schoolchildren being taught sodomy by their teachers.

Leery again praising the student journalists, noting that the teachers may feel like taking credit for these brave students but won’t - just like when may he was at DePaul and his students did great work.

Now Leery crying about the NYT refusing to subsidize the Athletic’s losses in perpetuity.

This show is fantastic today.

And no surprise this thing has an added racism element to it, much to Bernsies delight

I'd heard that our high school football team had the JV guys do the elephant walk.

I'm glad I was on the golf team. We just took money from the JV guys.

Parkins currently digging the grave for NU baseball head coach Jim Foster. Everyone is getting fired.

Baseball guy discouraged guys from going to trainer.

Also racism. Maybe a sexist comment.

Spiegel and Parkins’ advocacy of “doing the journalism” may somehow be more sanctimonious than B&H.

I saw 12 died at Churchill Downs. I guess we both love dangerous sports. At least football players have other options.

I said high school. They can be the same age or within a year or two. Would you be fine with the Shrek List in schools but only for those old enough to be at the age of consent?

No horses broke down in the Derby. I'm sure horses die everyday. Just like people. I know that because I'm old and I read the obituaries.

Parkinsons and the fat guy really seemed to enjoy talking about the baseball today. This was fun for them. They weren't really sickened by it as much as they were somehow invigorated. They had this "I told you so" tone, even though they could have never predicted the baseball team mess.

"Great journalism," Spiegs said to Parkinsons.

Spiegs did say that NU was the only good school in the Big Ten. Drunk Squirrel kept texting me the drop from it.

For the record, I can't say I disagree with them about the baseball team, unless they are making stuff up.

Well people get concussions and die suddenly every day too.
