What happened to the bootleg movie industry? I liked to go into the barbershop or local Chinese restaurant and haggle over the cost of illegal DVDs.

Nothing like a good, low quality Martin Lawrence dvd.

The best were the bootleg home burnt copies recorded by someone sneaking in a camcorder and pointing it at the screen. At least you got the MST3K experience of peeps getting up to go the bathroom and blocking the screen and black ladies sitting near the cameraman talking back to the folks on-screen.

Yup. Can set your watch to it.

Theoretically, the union is also asking for unreasonable demands around 50 percent of the time. They would be dumb not to.

That's right, I touched the third rail.

I'm quitting the board. I can't be associated with anyone who has judgment like this.

They've already cancelled around 150 shows with more coming. That doesn't even include the shows were in pre-production. A lot of these writers are going back to Starbucks where they belong because those jobs are gone and not coming back. They're raising prices because the streaming model doesn't work. They're trying ad-supported but that ship has sailed nobody is sitting thru commercials any more. HBO was already sued for pumping the numbers and Disney has 3 lawsuits pending for fraud. Netflix had to return money to their advertisers because they didn't hit the numbers.

The union blew it because the streamers wanted the strike so they could cancel the contracts on all their bad deals. The standard contract with a production company has language if a strike lasts a certain amount of time the contract is void. Now they can cancel the shows (which they did) or renegotiate with more realistic terms.

With fewer jobs available the good writers should be the ones getting work but we'll see how that goes.
