I don't think he won the trade but he fooled the White Sox into thinking they had a HOF.

dont you ever mention that name around here again

it wasn't per se the trade but how overvauled Eloy was that they build the team around that bum. Even at this years trade deadline they refused to trade him even when the marlins supposedly wanted him but they gave burger instead

Quintana gave the cubs what they kinda needed at that time. He was a winning pitcher in Chicago (as a cub). Don't forget that.

Isn't it ultimately Jerry and Kenny? As much as I want to blame Hahn, I always felt he was still a puppet to Kenny.

Schueler and Williams was the best stretch of White Sox baseball in generations. They were well over .500. Hahn lost 900 games and was more than 150 games under .500.

Himes did the heavy lifting. But apparently he had the personality of say, Rob DeSanto, so he had to go.

I think that you can sum it all up with Tony LaRussa. If you would ask AI to bring in all of the stupid things that the White Sox have done in the last 6 years and come up with one great example of awful baseball decision making it just might regurgitate LaRussa.

I saw the "news". Doesn't change a fucking thing. As long as Reinny owns this team, he will continue to run the team like the cheap miser that he is. Bringing the drunk sot back and hiring a weak person like Getz to be your GM is just about all Reinny is all about. In his mind Getz/Larussa 100% replaces Williams/Hahn. Two dopes replacing two other dopes.

Anyone who expected some positive reorganization of the White Sox is delusional.

you could usually count on reinsdorf to make unpopular moves that he thinks are brilliant but the last couple of years have been stranger than normal, like he has some diminished capacity and is living in a world from 20 years ago

Yep, Jerry dying or selling is the only chance for actual change. Which means he won't sell, and probably has some sort of evil billionaire cryo-chamber that will keep him alive until he's 120.

I think Jerry has already croaked and baseball replaced him with baseball's first AI replicant to run a baseball organization.

After Williams moved up from GM, do you really feel like his presence has had a positive impact in the last decade or whatever he's been in that position? I can't disagree with his years leading up to 2005-2006. The way he built the 2005 team was successful and that team was probably one of the most dominant playoff teams I've seen.

It was the most dominant playoff team ever.

Kenny Williams was aggressive every year with the limited budget Reinsdorf gave him. There was no question he was trying to win. Once Weasel Hahn took over, the was no identity from the GM. It reminded me of the Gar years. Paxson was very successful as a GM, but like Kenny, he was forced to wear the mistakes of his successor.

Paxson was such a great GM that his teams made the conference finals once, and the NBA finals never.

The faces of the rebuild are Jerry #1, with Kenny and Hahn interchangeable at #2 and #3.

How soon we forget the Machado debacle and embarrassment. Houston, Philadelphia, and the Cubs added high priced players. Reinsdorf wanted no part of that. Now in hindsight, the rebuild would still have failed because of the amount of young players who don't know and aren't educated in baseball. Swingers, throwers, and glove wearers don't get you to the world series.

The money, or lack thereof, and the deferred payments wasn't the worst of that. It was the shitfuck move of signing Machado's brother in law as some added perk.

Context is important. Paxson blew the Tyrus Thomas pick, but it led to Rose. Outside of that, his success rate was insane. Rose's knee and LeBron derailed the Bulls.

The failed Tyrus Thomas pick led to the Bulls being in position to draft Rose. Paxson didn't miss on any other pick. Gar didn't hit on any picks.
