They ran the ball just fine last year.

I’m not saying they go triple option or anything - and I’m not, not saying that - but complaining about fields’ inability to pass downfield at this point seems masturbatory. He’s not that guy. Either move on or do something non-traditional with his main talent.

They had Teven Jenkins last year.

I agree. I assume the concern was/is injury, as it is anytime any QB runs. But who cares at this point. Run him 30x a game and let him get the shit beat out of him. What's there to protect

Right now, the Bears' offensive line appears to be worse at center, right guard, and left tackle than it was at the end of last season. Patrick and Davis are downgrades from Mustipher and Jenkins respectively. And Jones' first game looked like a regression from the way he finished his rookie year.

It almost seems that way, not sure if any other NFL team would start Patrick at center, not bringing in a competent NFL center was GM malpractice, not understanding that your starting center is a key to making line calls and getting everyone lined up is coaching malpractice.

You wonder why there was not an adult in the room questioning why you would not bring in a veteran center to protect your jittery starting QB and add depth to your often injured offensive line.

Or a rookie center who doesn’t suck.

Was it also his plan to sign some high-priced linebackers to look just as bad as the marginal NFL players they had at those positions last year?

At what point do we stop saying that Poles is succeeding at trying to lose and start saying he is failing at evaluating talent?

Are ANY of his acquisitions--draft picks or free agents--clearly hits?

He wasn't going to know that Jones would regress and that Whitehair would hurt his hand. That said, I also think he trades players before the deadline and starts to tank the season if Carolina is 1-6 or something.

Yep, I've been bringing this up since the off-season. Every failure we found out about with respect to signing guys was immediately framed by bootlickers here and in the media as Poles playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. In reality it's more likely that he's trying to play Connect 4.

Jones wasn't all that great last year. The Bears gave him a starting position. Whitehair has been mediocre for just about his entire career.

Maybe his master plan is to tank again and pick his guy at QB next year?

Poles must not feel any heat from George to win this season, how else can you explain the lack of urgency and lack of preparation last Sunday?

The real question is when will Fields get hurt, he's going to get killed if you keep starting the same three guys on the interior of your offensive line.

They had first overall and traded half of its value for a veteran wide receiver. Thirty-second overall was dealt for another veteran receiver. They also clearly drafted for need in last year's draft, not BPA.

None of it adds up to the behavior of a team trying to lose.

It's one thing to take a somewhat encouraging rookie year by a late round pick as an indication you might have something at the second most important position on the field. Its another thing entirely to treat that guy like Orlando Pace and bring in zero competition or even a quality back-up.

Dude, he doesn't have a master plan. I know you're a big Poles guy but he flopped this off-season when he failed to leverage all that free agency capital into players that actually made the team better.

Swami Bob told all of you here that Braxton Jones could/would likely regress

"A second year player going against one of the better defensive lines in football may struggle" is not Swami.

One thing is for sure, you just as fucking annoying as Chris Berman.

Waddle and Silvy had a Next Gen stat that showed Fields was the least aggressive quarterback in the NFL last season and that trend continued Sunday. He only tried to throw 1 of his 40 passes in a tight space.

Was that one pass the one the Packers housed?

It was probably the throw to Kmet in the endzone

The Ringer does a weekly rating of 34(?) QBs.

After last week’s performance, Fields jumped from their 25th best QB to 24th.

Daniel Jones fell?

You’d think so, but it was actually the result of a notable injury that some find objectively hilarious.
