Not as much 100 losses but ya getting knocked out of the playoffs when playoffs weren't expected and having a winning season when 74 wins or so was expected stings.

At least we're watching a Chicago team with hope

Bears no hope and it's not even the 2nd qtr of the season

Next 4

Cubs at Braves, 3 at Mil

Marins at Mets, 3 at Pitt

Reds 3 at STL

-----

Cubs will go 1-3 - the only win the last day of the season when the Brewers rest up their guys for the playoffs and play scrubs

Reds will go 2-1 vs STL and finish ahead of the cubs.

Marlins will go 2-2 or 3-1 and move onto the playoffs

I agree. 6 games over .500 was a pipe dream in March. Congratulations.

Let the subdivision have some fun Sandy, they know it is going to be years before they can watch a meaningful Sox game in September.

The bullpen is fried from overuse. Fulmer's meltdowns in the first six weeks probably cost them the division. I'm willing to bet that Leiter, Merryweather, Alzolay all hit career highs for appearances. No veterans acquired for the bullpen at the deadline, David Robertson would have been nice.

What is their record with Alzolay on the IL?

Ross is not a good in game manager, but they aren't going to make a change with a 80+ win season. He might need a better crusty old bench coach, however.

What's been meaningful for the cubbies? That they completely showed their asses?

Braves were taking home souvenirs in a 'meaningless' game.

Those games against Arizona were meaningful.

Over the last 3 weeks or so it seems like all of the Cubs losses are by one run and they've lost most of them late.

This has to be a bitch for you Cubs fans to watch.

What do you think, 2027 for the Sox?

Easier than 100 losses. I'll ake a winning season over that.

Lose 100 games or eek out a division title in your shitpile division (AL or NL Central) and get curbstomped in the playoffs. No difference.

Not the same team without Adbert Alzolay rebirth but highly injury prone ('21-'23 218 IL days)

This is the type of year, when coupled with a slow start next season) that will get a manager fired. St. Louis will likely bounce back next year. If that happens, and the Cubs are struggling to break out of third place, or maybe 4th (if Cincinnati continues to move forward) I can see Ross getting fired during the first few months of next season.

i can see that (ross), but i don't see the cards bouncing back to threaten the division - no pitching. unless they go balls-out and spend in the hundreds of millions. exciting new ss, but the reds have more exciting new players.

right. i don't jump up and twirl around when the cubs win and then hate the cubs the next day when they lose. didn't know he knew about euro football and has done well with sports investments -as posted and documented here. never read one post from him on those subjects.

prefer spontaneous posts. not posting 2 hrs. after the fact after reading someone else's 2 sentence tweet in X-world and rushing here to post it as that poster's original thought.

huckster. seen his cubs podcasts, with feldco play of the game and 4 seasons cub of the game. him and pat hughes are 2 peas in a pod.

yeah...overall, bullpen not good enough - even when fresh. starting pitching? i'd say 6-6.5 out of 10. that's not good enough to legitimately compete for a pennant.

i also have seen enough from a few players that have decent stats, but, when you really need a situational AB, they usually fail miserably. ross decided to bench morel (rightly so), probably would have struck out on 2 pitches if used against RP yates. no excuse for not attempting a safety squeeze for that vital insurance run. no way ross is thinking that from here out into forever, mastrobuoni will hit .322. he'll quickly revert back to his true self. cubs experts on the 670 this am are defending mastrobuoni and his last 23 ABs.

I think that Counsell leaves to go to the Mets, and the Brewers probably retrench just a little. Not a full teardown, but maybe some targeted selling to make room for their very good (better than the Cubs in position players) prospects. Jackson Chourio is probably going to start 2024 on the major league roster.

The Cardinals have some interesting prospects but not enough, weakest in the division. Goldschmidt probably gets moved to pick up some pitching, and maybe move Gorman or Walker to 1B. But the Cardinals major league pitching is a train wreck, and some of their acquisitions such as Liberatore are underwhelming.

But the Reds are really the threat. They fleeced the Twins at last year's trade deadline, they have an exciting young infield and a couple of good young pitchers. They need some outfielders and some bullpen help, but they are going to be serious contenders next year.

The Cubs absolutely must either re-sign Bellinger or trade for and extend Juan Soto (which would probably cost them Morel plus prospects). And even though he is a flaming asshole, they need to kick the tires on Josh Harder to pair with Alzolay. And then they need their recent #1 and #2 draft picks to keep progressing.

The Cardinals have similar issues as the White Sox for next year. They are desperate for pitching. There is no MLB ready pitching in their system currently. And they have not been a team that has been willing to sign pitchers to big contracts. So they will have to make some trades or hope a couple scrap heap guys bounce back with career years.

Are there rumors of Counsel leaving the Crew? I must have missed that. I figured he was a lifer in Milwaukee.

counsell leaving has been swirling for a few months. he's let it leak out that he wants time off for family. i believe the brewers would pay him whatever he wants, so, i don't think it's a contract ploy. he's off every day from oct. to feb., but, you can't question anyone's devotion to family.

the brewers gm was interviewed on mlb radio on sunday. he was given the expected "no one wants to face the brewers in the playoffs" nonsense...then was asked about counsell. he stammered and said he didn't want to talk about the issue until the season was over. not good.

doesn't look good if you want counsell to stay in milwaukee.
