counsell leaving has been swirling for a few months. he's let it leak out that he wants time off for family. i believe the brewers would pay him whatever he wants, so, i don't think it's a contract ploy. he's off every day from oct. to feb., but, you can't question anyone's devotion to family.

the brewers gm was interviewed on mlb radio on sunday. he was given the expected "no one wants to face the brewers in the playoffs" nonsense...then was asked about counsell. he stammered and said he didn't want to talk about the issue until the season was over. not good.

doesn't look good if you want counsell to stay in milwaukee.

Counsell's patron David Stearns went to the Mets as President. Showalter isn't working out there, and I think it's logical that Steve Cohen will open up the checkbook for Counsell if Stearns asks him to do so. In the scheme of things, Counsell would be paid about the same as a backup corner outfielder.

I don't see it as likely, but the Padres are going to have to shed some payroll and Soto only has one year left. If they are able to negotiate an extension as part of the trade discussion, it might work out.

I think it is far more likely that Bellinger stays in Chicago at about $35M too much, but the FA hitting market this year is shit so overpaying for someone will be a necessity and better Bellinger than Chapman. PCA has shown in this September callup that he's not ready to play every day, and Tauchman is a journeyman who can turn into a pumpkin at any moment.

Cards will be back contending next season. Guarantee it - they won't lie down and have another year like this one.

Ignore the Cubs for a second. St. Louis can't buy enough FA pitching to contend with the Reds and Brewers, they need both rotation and bullpen pieces. Trading guys like Edman and O'Neill isn't going to help enough. Trading Goldschmidt could probably land them one starting pitcher, however.

And St. Louis is Reinsdorfian when it comes to top of market pitching. They just don't give out the big contracts for starting pitching. They are content to try and cobble together enough to win 87 games and hope the offense catches fire in a playoff series.

In retrospect, St. Louis should have gone after Boegarts.

At absolute best, St. Louis is the #2 WC next year. But I think they will probably end up around 79-83.

joe girardi says the cubs still have a shot, but, tonight is must win. heard ross complain about not getting runners in from 3rd with 1 out. he needs to look in the mirror. mastrobuoni was being mastrobuoni. did he think he'd hit a fly ball 325 feet to CF to score the run? if so, not sure what he's been watching all season. can't say if mastrobuoni is an accomplished bunter, but he's laid down a sac bunt or two. should have safety squeezed.

starters have been ok/good this series. kudos to taillon for settling down. stroman and the cubs might be due a 4.1 IP 6 earned run game from a starter. if i remember correctly, bosio worked with arrieta...maybe the light will come on for taillon or maybe bosio is a better pitching coach than hottovy.

luzardo - their top pitcher left; looks very tough in cool weather at night. game on mlb network. mets would really be doing heavy lifting to help the cubs tonight.

The Braves announcers are brutal. Total homers and complain about any little call that goes against the Braves. Like the kid that gets 99% but still gripes about something.

It’s pretty much a given now that Stroman will exercise his option for next year…he better not be higher than their 3rd starter.

He’s getting tattooed.

Marlins probably looking at the score now and getting motivated to win

Stroman should be pulled right now but Happ's fucking drop really fucked him over. should have been out of the inning with none scoring.

Kind of surprised they gave Happ an error, making the runs unearned. Normally they will rule a hit if the fielder runs a long way and dives/slides.

One thing I noticed about the Braves - a lot of thee big hrs and hits in this ballpark they won't get in October at a vistors ballpark. they will be routine fly outs. just remember that. :!:

the fact that j.d. has said 'this guy is basically an amateur' 2-3 times, tells us he really saying the cubs' bats are pathetic with no real plan of attacking atlanta's hypen-boy. he's not going to say that on the marquee network.

luzardo looking masterful getting out of a man on 3rd with 1 out situation. lindor stole a base, wild throw..put him on 3rd. otherwise, mets look lost against him. has 5-6 Ks in 4 innngs.

by some miracle the mets win tonight then they have an itsy bitsy shot , but they have to win all 3 at brewers and have pitt beat the marlins 2/3. but i'm pretty sure the pirates are thinking about vacation already. so probably not going to happen.
