Do the Cubs have any hotshot prospects on their way next year? This team can't keep buying free agents to make the next step.

maybe the last game of the year when the brewers play their scrubs. i dont even know if they can beat the brewers scrubs

the brewers are not the braves, not even the cubs, when it comes to hitting. no goldschmidt, arenado, contreras and brew crew really should have lost 2 of 3 to the helpless cards. you heard j.d. saying the brewers may use their starters for 4-5 innings, as they did today.

given all that, i think it's over. braves had elder/vines/20 year old rookie on the mound and the cubs had opportunities. miami has barely pitching left, burned luzardo tonight. garrett will pitch on sunday on 3 days rest. what will happen in pitt? don't think it matters. i consider tonight's game in ny a marlin win. i give the cubs a 5% chance.

benintendi (amongst other LFs in mlb) on the sox team is hitting nearly .20 points higher than happ. no wonder pat hughes came out of nowhere with unexpected and stern (for pat hughes' standards) criticism for his 6th inning AB.

ross' hands are tied with an occasional benching for rest/hitting reset for swanson/hoerner. suzuki and morel? no problem. happ? i guess not.

the jammer sinking back to his level. he's no aramis ramirez.

two guys who need to be called out for this collapse are the two cubs you can't say anything bad about : happ and swanson

2-0, 2 on, 1 out, the SEASON ON THE FUCKING LINE - pitch right down the middle....Swanson - 6-4-3 season ender.

Happ terrible defense and terrible year. the guy was an all star last year. wtf happened this season? just fucking terrible if he's not playing reds/pirates.

you know all they needed to do WAS NOT GET SWEPT in Arizona. All they had to do is win 1 out of 4 vs Arizona. But they got swept.

yeah, i thought his selection to the all-star game was a mercy selection. i think they need to select one player from every team. was never impressed with his sliding catches - though reliable. his throwing improved from a few years ago, i'll give him that.

i expect more from him. if he's going to hit a paltry 20 HRs, then i would think he's cutting down on his swing and i'm looking for a .275-.280 average. if he's going to hit .244, then i expect 30 HRs at a minimum - half his games at wrigley.

we got .244 and 20 HRs. those players are a dime a dozen in mlb. velazquez is one and he's probably $18 million a year cheaper.

disappointing season for him.

I keep hearing the words 'Bilbo Baggins' popping in my head right now. Not sure why. Anyone out there trying to communicate telepathically with me? is this the key word you want me to type out here to make sure it worked?

i think i need to walk this off.

Hilarious Kay sticks it to Grandpa's guys.

The last Mets/Marlins ½ inning with more rain in the forecast..

Boog's vaunted D only 4 short pace of last year's errors.

A friend of mine that owned a tavern told me a story of Zimmer having a meeting with a a well known unsavory character days before the playoffs. I had a feeling he was selling the series when Dawson was talking on tv how they weren’t gonna win cause his back hurt. I later was in an elevator with the lil bull at the off track betting facility 1 on 1 and I was this close from asking him if he threw the series, but he had that snarl on his face and didn’t want any piece of that metal plate in his dome in tight confines.

Suzuki was 5 feet from the wall he was afraid of to get too close to.

heard former all-star 3rd baseman ron coomer on the score this am. said the jammer "looks awkward" at 1B. no shit. no mention of ross, who likes to play mastrobuoni/madrigal at 3rd and is the cause of this. ross is currently punishing morel, hasn't been impressed by pca or canario to give them a start in CF and have bellinger relieve the awkward jammer at 1B.

also hit on the bullpen. truer words never said, though the excuses were hard to take. leiter had a meltdown in cinci. he looked like joe biden out there. "these guys have never pitched in high leverage situations, as often...etc..etc..". we'll check the relief rosters of the diamondbacks and marlins and see the history of their high-leverage relievers. arizona got sewald at the deadline, we got cuas.

mlb radio looking to fill time on the radio and talking about a 'what if' in regards to the padres. so, arizona, marlins and cubs will lose all their remaining games this weekend and the padres will win out. ok. is it almost 10am et??

So what do we need to do to make the playoffs?

Ron Coomer was interesting today on M & H trying to circumvent the cup half full mandate. He did say (which I hadn't heard) Stroman refused to go on a minor league rehab assignment. I'd think that live in game action would help speed up his arm strength and give the Cubs a proper progress evaluation before they juggle the starting pitching rotation in a playoff push.

until the bitter end..

looks like cabrera for the marlins vs. either priester or bido for the pirates. arraez still out with the ankle. bad news is i believe the pirates are shutting down keller, who was due to pitch on sunday, against garrett.

hendricks vs rea in milwaukee.

the astros france vs. arizona's gallen.

pirates up, 1-0 in the 4th....looks like bullpen day for the pirates. cabrera has had baserunners against, 3 hits and a walk. hope it keeps up.

all this moot if the cubs don't win.

Is unfortunate Cubs didn't win one of those Atlanta games. Astros have a lot to play for vs Dbags as the Mariners have the tiebreaker over Houston.

so far, so good...3-0 pitt, still batting in the bot 4th, bases loaded, hayes up...ah, flies out. marlins need to outscore them by 4 in the remaining 5 innings...looking ok. have to take care of business in milwaukee
