It's not so much a question of "positivity" as it is a question of stereotyping. Characters like Jim, Dwight and Andy are allowed much more individuality than any of the stereotypical female characters. It's interesting that the show seems to flaunt its defiance of stereotypes when portraying blacks and gays, but its treatment of women is marked by an aggressive reproduction of stereotypes.

you don't think andy's a stereotype? or dwight? they have certainly expanded the role of dwight, and i think they could do with expanding a few other of the females, but i don't know that any of these characters have gotten all that much fleshing out...i still think of michael as more stereotypical...

you may be right, i think that it can be said about a lot of shows, not just "The Office"--but I don't think it takes away from the show.

As I had...exhaustingly said before...the only thing I didn't like about "The Office" was when they started turning it into hour long dramedy episodes. It was just...too draggy.

How are Andy, Dwight, and Michael stereotypical males?

Both "The Office" and "30 Rock" were very strong tonight. I'm so glad they're back, it's so refreshing.

I loved the whole thing with Michael being obsessed with the ad chick in the magazine...in a sad way, I've done the same thing...not...visited graves or made phone calls--but hey now i know there's a way... 8)

C-Nor and I have had a falling out.

Some good ones today.

Sandwich girl, don't vote, "check this out Jeter, you think you're better than me?!"

Also, shows were pretty good. Micheal Scott makes me so dam awkward and the Creed line cracked me up. "When I get Pam's chair, then I'll have 3." Good stuff, when BJ Novak writes the episodes youc an always count on a good creed line.

I loved that Michael showed up for his blind date with a rose in his lapel, which he probably saw in a movie.

Perfect!

My favorite line was when Phyllis was filling out the card adn she said, "I'm still fixing him up with my fat friend, and he'll just have to deal with it!"

aside from NBC insisting on fucking with their lineup, tonight was fantastic for "the office" and "30 rock".

actually that episode of "the office" is probably one of my favorites already, i can't wait to watch it again.

One of the best Dwight episodes. His interactions with Troy were outstanding.

"Do you have powers?"

Ryan on coke was a nice touch.

I'm suprised they went there. How soon will NBC be promoting "a very special 'Office'" where Ryan is in rehab? Maybe that's what the spin-off will be about? :P "The Clinic"?

30 Rock was also rock solid this week. I cant wait to see what happens next week.

The question remains though, were you expecting the coke angle?

What was the point of flopping 30 Rock and Scrubs?

I enjoyed the friction between Ryan and Jim. That could be a fruitful direction for future episodes. I also like the idea of Dwight turning into a chick magnet. The stuff with Jim causing everybody to be locked inside the office park just depressed me.

I think they want a stronger lead in for ER. They don't get the audience they used to on that show, and entering it's last season, it could use some help.

that's pretty astute. i haven't checked the ratings but i'd have to believe "30 rock" brings in more ratings than "scrubs".

Great episodes on Thursday night. Any time I can get a Darrell appearence, I'm happy. His "Fluffy Fingers" idea was hilarious.

yeah i liked the tickling thing.

the returns of both "30 rock" and "the office" have been impressively strong, unlike a certain show on ABC that airs at...9PM now on thursdays..

i liked that brian dennehy was the teamster boss in the "30 rock" episode; nice nod to a role he played in an HBO original movie YEARS ago...

The Office has been spectacular this season. Stanley's rampage Thursday was classic. The episode before that with Ryan on Coc was one of the top 5 in the shows history. "Every day I think you can't do anything stupider than the day before but you always do"

I loved the part where Liz scarfed down the sandwich on 30 Rock, so she could get through airport security.

2 word to describe 2nite's "The Office", f-ing awesome!

I don't want to give away anything, in case you guys didn't see it, but trust me, a lot of great stuff happens. Best is the part with Ryan and the very last few seconds of the episode.

Next season should be very interesting.

Had to bump for you WZ, 30 Rock is back tonight. Office should be good tonight with the Halloween episode. Tina Fey has to be living large right now with her awesome work on SNL as Palin. How much do you think they are paying her per appearence?
