Great question, if they stay in house it will be Pat Murphy I would guess but Matt Arnold the guy in charge has only been there for a year and supposedly he and Counsell were really close. Like live around the corner from each other and go on walks together, those might be a little awkward now. But I wouldn't know he might want to hire. I expect it will be a younger guy from someone's current staff.

If they go for a first time manager, I think the Francona-Cash tree is one of the better ones to promote from, the pile of trash handed to Matt Quartero in KC notwithstanding.

Brady Williams is the Rays 3B coach after several years of managing in the minors. Former big league Morgan Ensberg manages their AA team and is managing in the Arizona Fall League.

I wish I knew the game like this.

But being a Sox fan, every time there's an MLB game on or an article about the MLB, it feels like I am watching a show about one of my worst ex-girlfriends. The last few years have made me tune out due to the pain.

Chet, I agree, I will be shocked if it isn't some young dude.

They're silly if they don't keep Murph. But if they don't, I'd guess he comes with Counsell to the Cubs.

Hopefully they don’t raid the Royals’ organization or the Sox won’t know what to do.

I only know about the Rays because their AAA team plays about 25 minutes from my house. And because I liked listening to Dave Wills RIP and Andy Freed on the Rays home radio call on XM.

There are some trees which are like the Bill Belichek coaching tree - looks shiny and turns to shit in ten weeks. Old time guys like Showalter, Melvin, Bud Black... I don't recall any managers worth shit having come from their staffs.

They should go all in on this rivalry and hate and hire David Ross.

Yes, because that has been such their track record.

He will be frustrating with his lineups and constant changing, but he seemed to always have complete buy in by the clubhouse. You never heard of any issues internally, that is a Huge part of the battle.

Further he had their respect as a former player that had to bust his ass to get everything he got.

Ok, that's actually on of my beefs about cookie cutters. Changing the order, not necessarily the players, the order.

He doesn't necessarily change the order but every lineup will be different players

The ol' keeping guys fresh....unless you're a good reliever. Then it's 'fuck you, get up and start throwing'.
