Both sports stations took a big drop from both doing a 1.8 in P1 of the '06 book to MVP's 1.4 and SCR's 1.3.

My question is, Rock, are you and Pappy still very very happy with these numbers? When we find out how the individual shows broke, I bet we will get some great line about how wonderful they did.

What's sad is that even combing the ratings, they stations together don't break into the top 10.

I love Danny Mac, but after looking at those ratings I think he'd have been better served rewarding Ozzie and Coop with a trip to Hawaii rather than Jurko and Harry. :D

Remember when they started the North morning show? They thought mikey would attract new listeners via the new format he was adopting. After a year plus a few things are quite apparent about the mike north morning show. Time to admit that the effort to attract new listeners via the new format has failed. The score and mvp were are and will always be ratings slaves to the success of local sports teams. The ratings were up during the sox run, stayed ok during Bears seasons and tumbled during the winter sports abyss that is Bulls and Hawks season. This has not changed since the introduction of the sports talk format. In fact, the show would be better served to jettison the annie experiment and begin targeting the male sports talk audience and drop the news infotainment angle. The problem is it may be too late. It is not a destination spot on the dial, just a place to stop in for a sports update every now and then.

Pretty good point, Evilbob. When will these guys learn? They pay these hosts hundreds of thousands (or millions, in the case of our favorite high-school dropout), they tinker with formats, they shuffle lineups, and it's been proven over a period of years now: A local team or two get hot--your sports-radio ratings jump; the teams lose--ratings drop. But, I don't think the "creative" minds and high-priced "talent" that program these stations and host the shows would ever admit that they are simply, as you put it, "ratings slaves to the success of local teams." Their egos wouldn't allow it.

Hey Rock, why don't you tell us the ratings are flawed because the Bookie Priest hasn't been around long enough. The show has sucked, does suck and will continue to suck. It not only doesn't draw new listeners, it is losing listeners at a rapid rate. The 18 months are about up and the ratings are lower than Fred and Murph's. North is a legend in his own mind and a has-been in everyone else's mind.
Better start the job search in earnst.

The ratings free fall is more of a comment on the failed "new" format of the north morning show. It can be theorized that the sport talk radio genre is indeed directly tied to local sports action. Therefore, in the absense of said local sports success you fighting for a finite number of sports talk listeners. The Murph and Fred show was nearly the direct opposite of the new north show. The ratings for both shows are nearly identical. So, in fact the score was able to get nearly the same bang for much less buck.

I distinctly remember several years ago (when he was solo) Pappy saying that if he ever did under a 2, he'd walk into traffic.

you sure he didn't say: if he ever blew under a 2.0?

What's that old Carlin line? He never fucked a 10, but one night he fucked five 2's?

I know yer happy for me but I'm a certified BAC operator (breathalyzer) and a 2.0 would mean he's dead. .08 and up is DUI. Norths been there done that.

Dont get me wrong. 2.0 would be a good thing for North.

I cant believe anyone still listens. I checked in for a few this morning to hear what happened in the Sox game.

I heard-

Pods is still the best player on the team.

Bernsie is great for whatever he did. (what did he do?)

Bookie Priest (my first time. Dont get it. I heard a commercial with another priest selling something with the same shtick a few mins later)

And Mike critiszing Katie Couric predicting she'll fail. (Huh? She makes a gaszillion dollars and everyone will watch her more so than Disco Dan Rather)

Any one got ideas on how else I can get my "next day" Sox news?

I'd be interested to see how an hour of the Spanish speaking White Sox show does against this
