Excellent!!! 3 and a half pages of "I don't care who you are Palehose" post. I will take my 19k and celebrate with some Nati light and Ramen noodles in my shack. I hope you keep not caring who I am and what I am posting.

There are a hundred of us but only 1 of you. So if we all say Who Cares? Well then yes, that might take a few pages. Can't you even do simple math? Oh wait, you're still a lowly producer at WSCR since you graduated in '03. No picture yet either, but there is a "on-air" picture of Mitch - who isn't even on-air! Enjoy your high-sodium, heart-attack-in-a-cup Ramen noodles.

I don't normally like to play this card, but there's a lot of pretty smart people on this board. One's a U of C graduate. Another one graduated from Stanford. Just about every school in the Big 10 is represented: Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan (I think), Ohio State (I think); those are some pretty good schools. We've got one guy who teaches at a Big 10 affiliate university. Just about everyone on here writes with proper (or proper-ish) grammar; you don't see any ESPN type "packers suck suckas !!!1!!!!" comments on here. I think we're pretty representative of sports fans who "get it." And yet none of us really care for Laurence Holmes.

I think we've elucidated some of the reasons why. The Pulse is pretty much a waste of time, or at least the explaining and presenting of the "segment" is a waste of time. "Subliminal song" was painfully, painfully bad radio. Not "so bad it's funny", but so bad that I'm switching the station. He's not particularly adept at analyzing any sport, and his observations are utterly pedestrian. Finally, he loses any charisma he might possibly have when he gets off on a tangent about how hot some woman is, or how sexy it is when women he knows where pink hats or football jerseys, or anything like that. It's not fun radio.

If we're wrong, why do the ratings bear us out? If we're wrong, why has Holmes been in training since I was in high school? If we're wrong, why did The Score have to bring in a jock with minimal radio experience to assist with a two hour show rather than let their perpetual B-list personality just have the low-pressure slot to himself?

For the record: I don't particularly care who you are. There've been quite a few on air personalities who have joined us here- Mac, Cy, Matt Abbattacola, Rongey, Mully and Hanley (in chat form), Silvy, Rock, Jason Goff, now Tim Bock. But the people tend to be a lot more respectful of the personalities who come on here and take some criticism by their real names, even if they disagree with the criticism. You may not particularly care about that, but considering that you've acted like a jerk and invited people to play "guess the personality", every person who was guessed is going to have a google hit on their name associated with you being an ass. Employers are none too keen on preemptively pissing off listeners, from what I hear.

Finally, just because I am in a bit of a jerky mood tonight, I'm going to take quotes out of context:

Come on, seriously?! You and I both know that there are many people who get into and GRADUATE from schools with high academic standards that are not what you would call smart (the 43rd President) so don't bring your sheepskins to me. FYI "getting it" doesn't mean you are smart. You either do or you don't get it. As for pissing off "listeners", you guys all say that you don't listen to the Hamp and Holmes show so I have nothing to worry about, right? Besides, you think I am worried of what Score Management can do to me for arguing with a couple of "listeners", lets be real.

Here's an idea: Hamp sounds as if he's got a bit of a head cold. This has slowed him down and as a consequence, he's not stuttering or changing thoughts mid-sentence. When he gets over the cold, tell him to slow down!

So, what does "getting it" mean then?

I have always assumed that it meant that the host is operating in a realm of sarcasm or intellectual humor that may not cater to the typical or more traditional sports radio listener. So, if you "get it" then you understand that this is the area in which they are operating and, if you "don't get it", you are trying to attribute the traditional standards of what you expect a sports radio program to be to this irreverent sports program.

Then, I believe anyone that discusses the ability or inability to "get it" as being able to attribute context to that which they are listening to. To me, the ability to properly attribute context is part and parcel of having intelligence or being smart.

If I am wrong, then please tell me what "getting it" means if it has nothing to do with being smart. I believe it is just an easy way out. A way to say you don't understand what you are listening to. Perhaps I understand it just fine and I do not like it. I "get it". "It" is not good.

I am speaking theoretically of course since I quit listening to this particular show a few weeks back. But, I have heard this "get it" thing before and I take issue with it.

He's still on that "getting it" thing. Palehose, like Doc said, there is nothing deep about "The Larry Show" or the new "Larry and Hamp Show". Please explain why you think there is something that we are missing. What is this creative genious that you profess?

Larry is basic, simple and corny. Larry laughs at his own jokes and explains to his audience that it is funny. Any insight he provides he heard from Bernsie or read it some where. Nothing beyond that.

That's why I also said after the school thing that, in general, the people on here are pretty sharp, regardless of credentials (and Lord knows I don't think that credentials are a necessary or sufficient determinant of who is sharp.) But if the people on here- a fairly intelligent group of sports fans- don't "get it", who, pray tell, does?

I "get" a lot of pretty complicated things. Atonal opera. Modern art. Hypermodern chess strategies. Route combinations and the rise of the run-and-shoot offense. Somatic cell nuclear transfer. Granted, there's lot of things I don't get, too; every hour I've spent reading about the credit crisis or the rules of craps was an hour spent in futility. But like Beardown said, Laurence Holmes's schtick isn't so complicated that it takes a truly nimble type of mind to appreciate it.

Webby you should go on here and don't take the "I don't use this much, blah fucking blah". I laugh at the hosts (Bernstein) who feel they can throw dirt at everyone in the world and criticize everyone, but they can't take the critics here that are the listeners.

If you are truely thick skinned, you dismiss the negative comments and maybe you walk away with one or two great points.

I don't think Matt Weber has anything to be upset about. The quality of lack thereof for that show is not a reflection of him or his abilities. I know he has a hand in the show, but frankly, I don't know what he could do. I don't think anyone here intended that the criticism be of him.

Thanks for the explanation of The Pulse once again you nameless, gutless, talentless, promotion-less mystery producer. It really wasn't clear to me what "The Pulse" was, because Larry never takes the time to explain it. These talking points are what I find truly comical about the filth you've been spewing on these boards:

- You're a gutless rat. You won't sack up and say you are, which is fine. Then don't run your mouth on this board if you don't have the courage to put a name to an opinion.

-You've got little to no talent. A child, a chimp, or a wooden bird on a swinging pendulum could all do what you do. Push buttons, and answer phones. The hilarity of the situation is you have been doing the remotes for "all these years." What, no promotion in sight, nutlick? Or do you think you hit the big time with your 10.25 hourly rate plus time and a half for holidays? You're the type of person who will never amount to anything...ever. You're as useful as nuthair, the Illinois Tollway, and Rosie O'Donnell all rolled into one ball of failure and worthlessness.

- As discussed previously, there are several of us on these boards with more intellect, career accomplishment, talent, and money than you. I didn't work to get my master's so some keyboard punching, worthless-assed chicken shit producer could insult my intelligence. Don't throw out the standard "Those who get it" line of b.s. The majority of the people here do get it: The show sucks. Hampton is a stuttering, incoherent ape, and Larry is flat-out annoying. If I mistakenly flip to the score during their timeslot, I flip the radio down the dial quicker than you can say "Palehose has an Associate's Degree and makes 17k a year." Most of us don't want to be spoon-fed this radio show for one reason: it sucks, like your bi-weekly paycheck.

Summarily, if you don't have the nuts to say who you are, or brain one in that huge, disgusting melon on top of your head to call a spade a spade and admit the show is a total clusterfuck, then don't come on these boards flapping those c-nt lips of yours like you're wiser than the rest of us mouthbreathers. If you feel like discussing your opinions with me one-on-one, in a personal setting where words have to be backed up and you can't hide your bitch ass behind a keyboard and monitor, PM me and I'll be more than happy to oblige. You're a fucking tool, Palehose. Now go cash that big paycheck of yours, tough guy.

Tell Hampton he doesn't get to make jokes anymore...

And there is no truth to the rumor that the Bears have applied for the government bailout because they invested in Sub-Prime defensive lineman...

Really, I thought my head was going to explode, right then and there...

When such an overwhelming majority has voiced their dislike for "the pulse", one would can construe that just maybe, there lies an opportunity to enhance the show. Is that not the purpose of focus groups? You can think of us as one big focus group.

Wow. Relax, Killer. I need to go back and carefully read the whole thread because I must have missed something here.

Am I the only one that noticed the sweet irony of the comment in the bold text? Does anyone know who bradmuster is? Other than that he really wants to get into a fight? A lot of energy expended in responding to somebody who's not as good as you are...

$.02...

Many others have put all of what I'm about to say down in writing, earlier in the thread. Hopefully at least Webby is reading this with a credulous eye. Palehose, there's no hope for you, and I feel that you are going to regret a lot of what you've contributed to this thread in the future.

So, as Beardown said, LoHo's an exceptional bullshitter. To quote Beardown, he "complicates the simple and simplifies the complicated." This is a problem, and it feels like an acute trait of LoHo's on-air personality rather than a functional error of the show that can be repaired by a producer. Unfortunately, this is also, to me, the most abrasive trait of LoHo's on-air personality (aside from the borderline objectification of women in the media, which is by far a more difficult issue to unpack here).

I generally dislike Mike Murphy's show due to his presence/delivery on the air, and even with that built-in bias, I believe him when he says that he has something on the order of "five hours of talk" to cram into a two hour show. The glaring difference between my inherent credulity re: Murph and the inverse incredulity re: Hamp + Holmes is that it feels like LoHo's inability to keep the simple simple and thoroughly investigate the complicated just feels like a waste of time. When listening to the show, it honestly feels like Laurence Holmes ("driver" of the show) can't come up with two hours of sports talk radio, and so he falls back on the above tactic.

Some would disagree with me on this point, but while the "not having enough talk to fill radio time" criticism could easily be made of guys like Matt Abattacola or Jason Goff when they fly solo, the difference is that the aforementioned rarely (this is where some/many would disagree with me) let their egos get in the way of their voices. Abbatacola and Goff (and also Paruch, who I would never accuse of "not having enough talk to fill radio time") tell it like they see it, and engage listeners with their insight. Intangibly, LoHo's insights on anything but the Bears (and even on this, his strong suit, he strays into rhetorical and logical spirals that only serve to confound the casual fan) feel, for lack of a better word, contrived and, inherently, irrelevant. Difference here, again, between LoHo and Murph: Murph is by no means an expert on any sport but baseball, but his demeanor (while abrasive to some, self included) can be abrasive, he rarely "reaches," his points come at you in a considered, concise manner, and if he does one thing extremely well that LoHo does not, it's that he engages listeners and makes them "want" to talk to him.

Which leads to yet another difference between LoHo and his younger colleagues at the Score: guys like Goff, Abbatacola (apologies if I'm butchering the spelling here), and Paruch are all guys I feel like I would enjoy having a conversation with. I can not say the same about LoHo, again, all due to the above.

Unfortunately, this has very little to do with Webby and his involvement with the show. I'm not sure how production meetings go in sports radio, but I would assume that Webby's capacity is primarily a functional one. If I'm wrong on this point, please do consider providing Hamp and Holmes both with some "outs" on their topics - a clear outline of where they can lead with their thoughts, rather than letting them squander several hours struggling to make the same point about the previous week's Bears game. I feel that this show reached the air at a perfect time for it to succeed, but I fear that once the Chicago football season ends, Hamp and Holmes will become an ever more grotesque trainwreck.

For purposes of the "focus group" objective at play here, I am a 24 year old male listener. I tune into, on average, 25~30 hours of sports talk radio a week, and the sports talk radio offered up on 670 The Score is the only sports talk radio I listen to regularly. As a listener, I have invested a lot of time and support (in the form of talking up the station here and with friends) to The Score. I have only called in to a show once, and it was to Murph's show when he was running a bit offering up a prize for the best contribution (the prize was one that would have helped me a great deal in securing baseball equipment for my first year in an amateur league). I am marginally college educated and (wait for it) make about the same per year as palehose23 likely does, judging by the digs taken at him in this thread.

I honestly hope this helps, Webby, and I sincerely wish you the best in your career.

Oh, I see what's going on here. Should've taken the time to read the whole thing. I thought it was a "Choose Your Own Adventure" thread, and I just skipped to the end.

Yeah. That's the thing about message boards. You kind of have to read what's typed in the little boxes to understand what the discussion is all about, detective. Was I looking for a fight? Not at all. Did typing a short paragraph in response to Palehose's ignorance take a lot of work or energy? Not at all. I am better than him, rump ranger, and I take exception to people impuning my intelligence like he did. But hey, I get lazy and don't always read every post, so I'll give you a pass for what you said this time. Happy Holidays, nutlick.
