Do you think Williams will outperform what Fields did as a rookie?

Who knows. But the expectation will be much greater for him to outperform Fields as a rookie.

I know. Everyone knows. Williams will outperform Fields as a rookie. Bryce Young also outperformed Fields as a rookie.

Better than voluntarily taking sacks like your guy the 23rd best QB does.

I'm sure the Bears players and their fans are just chomping at the bit to draft the 22nd best QB in the NFL. Positively "giddy" in fact

Yeah on a team that won't be tanking (As Fields team happened to be doing) that will thought of as a "wonderful" thing won't it?

Still lots of Bears fans that are chomping at the bit to keep the 23rd best QB. So it kind of makes sense, on balance.

If there is one thing I KNOW, it's that if the Bears draft CW, the overwhelming number of people that are currently clamoring for him are going to want him bounced by this time next year.

I’ll give him a solid season and a half before it comes to that.

Fair or not, I don't think there will be a honeymoon. On day one, he'll be asked to do things no Bears quarterback has been asked to do. He'll get booed if he struggles in his first home game.

Part of it will be due to his having replaced Justin Fields. The other part will be because he was the No.1 overall pick. Usually No. 1 overalls are expected to come in and start. At least when it comes to fans and their expectations. And lastly it will be the kid himself. When you are as brash as he and his family happen to be then you have to be able to back it up. And also not be provided with a "learning curve" either. I wouldn't expect him to come out of the gate and be an All Pro. But he should definitely look like that he belongs. If he comes out of the gate and is obviously overmatched, then he is going to get bashed. That comes with the territory when you run your mouth as much as he has.

Fair or not, he'll have to be great immediately. It is what it is. I think he's built for the expectations.

I'll hold him to Stroudian standards if he's drafted:

Top 15-18 QBR
Impactful increase in offensive points per game
Multiple comeback victories led by QB (Stroud had multiple)
Top 12 passer rating
270 yards per game passing

Penix is 17 months older than Williams.

The knees are concerning but Penix had no issues at Washington.

I've only seen him play three times, but I like Penix a lot. He'll be 24 in May, which isn't that old.

The guy seems to read the field well and throws with anticipation. Strong, accurate arm with good pocket presence.

Every throw is a line drive missile. He processes better than most, but I'm still not sure about him. That throwing motion doesn't help either.

Yes, the lack of touch and sidearm motion are significant concerns. But he is a more accurate passer than MANY and throws into tight windows very effectively.

 nice cultural appropriation

Kevin Sheehan had former UNC OC/QB coach and current Wisco OC/QB's coach Phil Longo on. Longo said he worked with Kliff Kingsbury but didn't indicate when that was.

Anyhow, Sheehan obviously brought Longo on to try to pump him for inside info on Kingsbury's QB plans. Longo, who coached both current Redskins QB Sam Howell and Drake Maye at NC thought Kliff should roll with Sam Howell. Thought the Redskins needed to improve their O-Line and give Howell another shot. Didn't say anything about Williams other than Kingsbury would likely prefer C-Will over Maye or Daniels b/c familiarity, if the Redskins drafted a QB--which Longo didn't seem to think they should this time around.

Longo looks like Wisconsin football:

Great is a relative term. Even if he is not a top 5 QB right out of the chute, he will outplay Fields in the passing game simply by throwing for 3000 yards and keeping the fumbles to a minimum. Its not a real high bar to be a better passing QB than Fields.

Fields was given a better OLine and a stud WR and only minimally improved as a passer from 2022 to 2023. Only dolts like LTG still believe Fields is the guy here. In fact if you find yourself opposing LTG in any argument-- especially when it comes to the NFL-- its a good sign that you're right or that he's wrong.

Williams may turn out to be a bust as well, but if you're Ryan Poles you have to take your chances on with him. Fields is not the guy. You have to move on. Seeing as you have the #1 pick and Williams is there, its not hard for regular people to connect the dots.

Hopefully the cult takes the time to come up with better pro Fields arguments other than "but he's really talented, check out this YouTube highlight where he doesn't see three open receivers but still jukes someone out to gain 4 yards".

post-draft discussion about what happened is fine

pre-draft discussion about all the possibilities is mind numbing....as much as it pains me to agree with Caller Bob, he's right, they're taking Williams so to debate the million alternate scenarios is pretty pointless.

What's worse is people publishing their mock drafts with serious sounding titles like "Report: Bears trade down in new mock draft"

i mean, the Bears are fucking idiotic, so I suppose it's in the realm of possibility that they trade down 1 and 9, then trade down from there so they have 30 4th round picks in the next 3 years.

but still, they're taking Williams

What's funny is the dope that pokes fun of "Offseason/Out of Town Football" Image has been peppering the board with his bad Offseason/Out of Town Football thoughts non-stop for the past 2-3 weeks.

8. One of them David Carr as Eli's backup. So 7.

Not really.

What the hell do you mean "not really"? Wasn't one of your central arguments that 80% of bears fans wanted to keep Fields?
