You can lose a 15 minute overtime and get another crack at it? Is that what I’m reading here?

It's basically extra innings. The clock is just there to change ends. The game could only end with a touchdown or turnover.

I was confused by that. Were Nance/Romo trying to say that even if the time ran out and the Chiefs still had the ball that they would roll another game clock?

Yes. Romo stated that it was the equivalent of the first quarter at that point

But was it Romo being a dummy or Romo understanding some obscure rule?

The way KC approached it made it seem as if Romo knew what he was talking about. There was definitely no sense of urgency on their part.
it does make it seem odd that SF took the ball though.

Under the new rules, both teams get at least one possession in overtime regardless of whether or not the team who gets the ball first scores. If the score is still tied after both teams get the ball once, the next score wins. The only way that the game will end after one possession is if the kicking team forces a safety on the initial possession.

Because it is odd they took the ball. Might as well see what the offense needs to do. Same reason the coin toss winner in college just about always chooses to go on defense first

Their defense was tired. I probably would have played defense anyway.

KC would have won this by 4 TDs if they had Fields. Maybe they're a new trade partner if they want to upgrade QB this off season

I suppose the reason to take the ball first would be the third possession. Score a TD, Chiefs score a TD, then 49ers win with any score. But only getting the FG gave Mahomes his chance

I’m sure that’s the reasoning, but given the limited scoring in the game that felt unlikely.

True. Shanahan needed to be aggressive like he was in the 4th. Chris Jones needs some love too. He saved 2 touchdowns.

They were doing just fine against Mahomes. 19 points in regulation 7 of which were driven by the botched punt. That's nothing. He was being contained.

It's different during winning time. He's a different animal like Brady was. He wins in regulation if he has 10 more seconds.

I just can't get past the punt thing. I mean KC was punting because they yet again got stuffed. Then the punt basically becomes a free 60 yard completion which becomes a TD a play later.

Throw the missed extra point in too.

Big picture, this game showed the importance of nailing the QB position above all else.

I don't disagree but it did seem like there were two models on display: cheap QB who is decent and a bunch of star talent on both sides of the ball. Then the other model was top heavy with your superstar QB. Game could have gone either way but yeah I'd prefer the star QB.

Team that goes on defense first wins "56% of the time" according to the numbers i've seen for college OT (which obviously is different (yet the same, sorta)).

If you let the other team go first and they do get a TD, then you're trying for a TD knowing that you're going for it on 4th every time; which should be an advantage vs trying to score a TD on first possession where you're far less likely to risk it on 4th down.

That was Romo's point on the broadcast, but he acknowledged that SF's defense was on the field for a long time right before OT.

Rule was put in place after Bills/Chiefs two years ago for only playoffs. They could have theoretically held the ball until half time of the overtime period. Which would be close to mathematically impossible.

Yeah, we can’t have people putting forth positive messages during the Super Bowl!

It was incoherent though. Jesus' washing of feet had nothing to do with what they were showing.

I just always find their work to be like hearing someone reading the bible for the first time then preaching about what they just read, which is what some of these evangelical sects approve.

I do understand your point and can agree with it, but I don't know if the HeGetsUs ministry ecourages people to explore more deeply

by the way, it seems like there were a few not for profits that have enough money and time to buy commercials on the super bowl

watch where you give your money

I don't think the point of the commercials is biblical accuracy.

It doesn't have to be accurate but what does it even mean. The washing of the feet isn't a scene of lack of hate. There are all sorts of other scenes they could have used to show understanding, forgiveness or lack of hate. Also, most of those scenes aren't people who show hate. Chicago doesn't hate migrants. If anything, we have been incredibly charitable and welcoming. If anything, we have been a good example of washing of feet.

I know its not as simple as this but I put that game on Shanahan. Two times he played for field goals knowing it would put the ball in the hands of Mahomes for a last drive. You would have thought he would have learned his lesson the first time when the Chiefs drove all the way to the 6 with the drive stopping in a field goal only because of time. Scared money is lost money.

He, of course, also bungled the OT coin flip but I do give a bit of understanding as this is new ground.

Here is what I don't excuse, run the freaking ball, genius. The Chiefs are sucking air and barely holding on. He's not the only coach who does this but, my goodness, these coaches just refuse to take the simple route.

They capture your attention with a little deception. We're generally programmed to know what most commercials are. We're shocked at the end of every one of their spots. I think it’s effective.

Shanahan is a bed wetter. He's cost himself 3 rings. Wilkes cracked under pressure too.

for what purpose? to go to their site for more superficial teaching?

Sure, I guess its good to get people thinking of God generally, but this kind of work leads people down the path to Buddy Jesus.

In most of those portraits, the people washing the feet were already performing the message of that biblical scene through their work.
