Patrick Lavon Mahomes II:

1 Regular Season Win Rookie Season
0 Playoff Wins Rookie Season

Coleridge Bernard "C. J." Stroud IV :

9 Regular Season Wins Rookie Season
1 Playoff Win Rookie Season

Agree with Nas, Stroud's rookie season > Mahomes' rookie season.

I think there are degrees to this. Goff is good NFL starter, but not great enough for me to be upset about passing on him. Then there's the Mahomes level starter. You need years of therapy to get over passing on him. I think you're putting Stroud in the Mahomes camp.

Not yet, still a lot of time. Obviously I'm very impressed and smitten with Stroud after his rookie year. Haven't looked it up but his stats - which are good but not great across the league but are indeed great for a rookie - would probably rank in the top 3-5 for best individual season QB stats all time in Bears history? Just guessing but yeah I admit to liking him a lot but more growth across another season would make me more comfortable with saying he's a superstar

Undefeated Mahomes ftw.

I think you hit on the winning formula. The Bears simply need to draft a qb with roman numerals at the end of his name.

It’s all conditional based on whether Stroud is good & Williams is not.

Criticizing anything after the fact is obviously hindsight, although it’s not like there weren’t contemporaneous arguments that Stroud was the best QB in the draft. The critique would be that Poles should’ve had the foresight to properly evaluate him in a way fans do/should not.

I think though that if you were to give odds on who would have the better overall career between Stroud and Williams that it would be pretty much equal.

The NFL Rookie of the Year awards won by quarterbacks seems to indicate that a lot of the time it doesn't last.

That's big. He made me adjust my seat during the Georgia game, but I decided to cling to my past opinion. Even though I usually give more weight to performances in key games and critical moments.

Forget Georgia, just check out the play by play for the last Texans drives in the fourth quarter in these games:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay/_/gameId/401547515

https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay/_/gameId/401547526

That's one playoff team opponent and one 5-3 Bengals team with Joe Burrow playing. Killer.

could Poles have traded down 1 to Houston; Houston takes Bryce Young (that's what has been reported as their preference, tho they might be trolling Carolina -- we were gonna fuck up like y'all did and take Young over Stroud but...sucks to be you, hahahahaha); Poles drafts Stroud 2nd overall and still gets some sort of draft capital in return? But you don't get Moore then.
