Michael Holley and his co-hosts on Boston Sports Night were discussing a potential Patriots trade for Fields a couple days ago. They concluded that the Patriots wouldn't give up anything more than a third for Fields, although they thought a fourth would be more justifiable.

Everyone's depressed because the Patriots are a dumpster fire, they have to fake liking basketball(Celtics) and the Red Sox won't spend any faahhking money.

I haven't been following the discussion as closely as I'd like, but there seems to be a growing opposition to taking a QB at #3. Among those favoring a QB pick in the first round, Daniels has emerged as the top choice over Maye. In general, though, there seems to be the greatest enthusiasm for MHJ or a trade down.

Espn1000 just said the same - they're likely gonna punt on QB and take MHJ. Can't tell if that's a smokescreen or their actual philosophy.

I would take MHJ over Daniels too. It would be more of a coin flip with Maye. Betting on Mac Jones and Zappe would surprise me.

Over the past decade at least, Boston has been much more of a Bruins town than a Celtics town. I see Bruins jerseys everywhere. Celtics stuff? Not so much. The Patriots are still a hot topic, but nothing like they were a few years back. People are getting suicidal about the Red Sox.

I listen to the show after Zolak sometimes and they're all over Fields. I don't think one of them has actually watched him play. They were talking about Bears fans chanting "We want Fields" but I thought it was the Packer fans that did that?

25 mil for Fields' 5th year option. I wonder if ATL and Raiders are really interested in having to pick that up.

That's part of why it could be tough to get valuable draft picks as trade return. I think several of these teams would love to try him out, but if he has a decent year - improving on his Bear numbers but still short of a being a top QB - they'd immediately have to make an expensive decision about him.

It seems like a conditional draft pick (like the Packers did with the Jets) would make sense for both sides. Offer a 3rd this year and a 4th for next that becomes a 2nd if Fields is extended or meets some other criteria.

They need many players and they won't have to move far to receive many picks.

the same can be said about the Bears and their #1 pick, and MHJ seems more of a sure thing than Caleb Williams.

That's a cheap two years of a starting QB no matter how you slice it.

That would make it 2 years for roughly $28M. Would you rather pay Fields $14M a year or give $40M to Mayfield and Daniel Jones? Would you rather have Pickett, Riddler, or Fields as your starter? It's an easy decision for me and I'm not a Fields fan.

Yes, the Bears certainly need more good players, and yes, MHJ is a safer bet than Williams.

Like I said, I think there are a lot of suitors for Fields, and yes I personally would rather have a healthy Fields at that price over Daniel Jones coming off a significant injury at $40M.

If the plan is to re-unite Getsy and Fields that's a massive fail.
