ESPN reporting a deal is imminent between the PGA Tour, Strategic Sports and possibly the PIF…

Nice signing of Anthony Kim LIV..... seven bogies and one birdie in his first round for a 76. I realize he has a lot of rust to knock off but yikes.. This gives more credence that this isn't a real golf tour rather than one we should take seriously. Reports had him making 7.5 to 10 million for a signing bonus. Pretty good money if you can get it for playing like that. I like AK and am sure he will eventually play better. Reports yesterday that he approached Rahm yesterday to say hello and had a Sharpie in his hand and Rahm thought he was a fan looking for an autograph. Oops..

And the video they released “Hello haters. I'm back.”. Haters? I think most golf fans were clamoring for his return, not hating.

I'm probably just a grumpy old man yelling at clouds, but I just have no interest in watching LIV, no matter who takes the money to play there. I watched a little bit of last weekends PGA tourney, even though I didn't even know who most of the leaderboard was. At no point did the thought of finding the LIV tournament even enter my mind.

I've tried to watch 15 minutes of it a couple of times when nothing else is on. Still miss some of the big names that made the switch but not enough to follow it closely or tune in regularly.

Get rid of the teams and make them play four rounds.

I'll bet anyone Anthony Kim still makes the cut.

Is there a cut in LIV?

No. I was trying to see if I could win an easy $10 off somebody.

I've made a bit of money at baseball games when it's 3-2, 2 outs, and a runner at first.

Another cool 76 for Kim. Only 25 strokes behind the leader after two rounds.

You're not watching LIV golf like MANY here don't listen to WSCR anymore.

Takes 15 seconds to look up his score online. I haven’t watched a minute of the tournament on tv.

A final round +4 74 for Kim only put him 33 behind the winner after 3 rounds.

“I’m not going to lie; for everybody who said this would be easy, some things have been, but not being able to defend some titles that mean a lot to me hasn’t,” Rahm said on Tuesday, during a lengthy conference call soon after his Masters Champions Dinner menu was released. “I love Palm Springs. I’ve been able to win twice there. Riviera is about as charismatic of a golf course as we have. It’s definitely a week that it’s fantastic for a lot of us, and it’s a fan and player favorite. Not being there was difficult."

“I still watched the broadcast. I still watch golf because I love watching it, but it’s hard,” Rahm continued. “It was hard not to be at the Phoenix Open at the end of February, and it was hard not to be at Hawaii because it’s another tournament that my family enjoys and I’ve done fantastic on.”
Oh boo fucking hoo. Cry us a river, then use one of the MANY hundred dollar bills you took to wipe your tears.

His Champions Club dinner looks fantastic, though;

I find it hilarious that to a man they all said they went over there because less tournaments. Not they can’t get world ranking points, they are having to play the Asian Tour to try and help get in the Majors.

Really. Less golf and more money was the key, right? So fine. Do that. Good luck.

But you can't make the jump and then whine about not being able to play more tournaments without coming across as a complete asshat

Found this list both informative and interesting.....

Past major champions with full major access (6)

Bryson DeChambeau (Won 2020 U.S. Open)

U.S. Open through 2030

Masters, PGA, The Open through 2025

Dustin Johnson (Won 2016 U.S. Open; 2020 Masters)

Masters for life

U.S. Open through 2026

The Open through 2025

PGA through 2024

Brooks Koepka (Won 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open; 2018, 2019 and 2023 PGA Championship)

PGA for life

Masters, U.S. Open through 2028

The Open through 2027

Phil Mickelson (Won 2004, 2006 and 2010 Masters; 2005 and 2021 PGA Championship; 2013 Open)

Masters, PGA for life

The Open through 2030 (when he will be 60 years old)

U.S. Open through 2025

Jon Rahm (Won 2021 U.S. Open; 2023 Masters)

Masters for life

U.S. Open through 2031

PGA, The Open through 2027

Cameron Smith (Won 2022 Open)

The Open until age 60

Masters, PGA, U.S. Open through 2027

Note: Of these players, only Johnson – who is entering the final year of his PGA Championship eligibility – is not exempt into every major for at least two more seasons.

Past major champions with some major access (7)
Sergio Garcia (Won 2017 Masters)

Masters for life

Martin Kaymer (Won 2010 PGA Championship; 2014 U.S. Open)

PGA for life

U.S. Open through 2024

Louis Oosthuizen (Won 2010 Open)

The Open until age 60

Patrick Reed (Won 2018 Masters)

Masters for life

Charl Schwartzel (Won 2011 Masters)

Masters for life

Henrik Stenson (Won 2016 Open)

The Open until age 60

Bubba Watson (Won 2012 and 2014 Masters)

Masters for life

Note: None of these players are secure inside the top 100 on the Official World Golf Ranking, so their chances of playing in majors for which they are not currently exempt is low, barring open qualifying (the PGA Championship has traditionally invited top 100 players who were not otherwise exempt).

Past major champ whose exemptions have expired (1)
Graeme McDowell (Won 2010 U.S. Open)

Note: McDowell’s last major appearance came in 2020. The champion exemption for the U.S. Open is 10 years – by far the least favorable exemption for a past major champ. The Masters and PGA are “for life,” while The Open allows past champs to play until age 55 (reduced from age 60 starting in 2024 for all future Open champions).

Left for LIV in 2024 with exemptions already sealed (2)
Tyrrell Hatton

2024 Masters: Qualified for 2023 Tour Championship; OWGR top 50 at the end of 2023

2024 PGA: Finished T-15 in 2023 PGA

2024 U.S. Open: Qualified for 2023 Tour Championship

2024 Open: Top 30 in 2023 Race to Dubai and FedExCup standings

Adrian Meronk

2024 Masters: OWGR top 50 at the end of 2023

2024 U.S. Open: Top 2, not otherwise exempt, from 2023 Race to Dubai

2024 Open: Top 30 in 2023 Race to Dubai standings

Note: Meronk, 52nd in the world as of this post, is likely to gain entry into the PGA Championship as well.

Exemption(s) earned while on LIV through non-OWGR based criteria (3)
Dean Burmester

2024 Open: Won Joburg Open on DP World Tour in Nov. 2023 (part of Open Qualifying Series)

Joaquin Niemann

2024 Masters: Special invitation

2024 PGA: Special invitation

2024 Open: Won ISPS Handa Australian Open on DP World Tour in Dec. 2023 (part of Open Qualifying Series)

David Puig

2024 Open: Won IRS Prima Malaysian Open on DP World Tour in Feb. 2024 (part of Open Qualifying Series)

Not currently exempt into any majors, but favorable positioning on certain criteria (2)
Lucas Herbert

2024 PGA: Likely via traditional OWGR top 100 pathway; currently ranked 79th

Andy Ogletree

2024 PGA and Open: Likely via OWGR International Federation Ranking (currently second; top 3 were exempt into 2023 PGA and top 5 are exempt into 2024 Open)

Not currently exempt into any majors, slim prospects outside of open qualifying (34)
Abraham Ancer

Richard Bland

Laurie Canter

Paul Casey

Eugenio Chacarra

Talor Gooch

Branden Grace

Sam Horsfield

Charles Howell III

Matt Jones

Anthony Kim

Jason Kokrak

Jinichiro Kozuma

Anirban Lahiri

Danny Lee

Marc Leishman

Sebastian Munoz

Kevin Na

Carlos Ortiz

Mito Pereira

Pat Perez

Thomas Pieters

So these bastards wanted to be in Chicago so bad and they couldn’t get one of the better courses and had to settle for Bolingbrook Golf Club. What a joke.

Also the giant, "Golf, but louder" banner 10ft behind the tee box

Bob McIntyre who won at the Canadian Open went ballistic too on this. I agree, they better learn. I think Rahm is absolutely miserable and totally expected that his movement to LIV would just fix everything, arrogant fuck.

Didn’t Jim Nantz or somebody tell Macintyre that this is the world now, better stop complaining and learn how to deal with it?

Somebody similarly needs to explain Golf but Louder to Rahm.

I think he really regrets his decision, other than the reported $300,000,000+ he got. Xander Schauffele said something a couple weeks ago without naming anyone, but was clearly talking about Rahm thinking he could "fix" golf. Xander said there is only one person who could make that move to "fix" things, and his name is Tiger.

So I saw yesterday before I left Tennessee that LIV was talking about how Nashville was the largest attended event held in the U.S. This didn’t surprise me as Nashville hasn’t ever had a PGA Tour event so I thought it would draw well. For 3 days, their new record was just over 40,000. Fuck, the Nashville Sounds drew 20,000 on Thursday and Friday of last week. That’s embarrassing to me for LIV.
