I still like Maye. I just like JJ more. It appears the league is following Nas.

Can he block? I think I remember him being a good blocker. I wouldn't want a Jacobs. He's definitely not better than Herbert and he can't block either.

The Bears need a fast motherfucker who can catch passes out of the backfield as a safety valve/checkdown receiver.

Someone like Gibbs. They also need someone to help a rookie not get killed. Herbert was a more willing blocker last year, but he was average at best. I have no clue what Johnson is. He looked promising when the season started, but he didn't look useful by the end of the season.

When you go back and look at the Bagent starts you see a marginal NFL QB moving the ball by simply making accurate on time throws to backs and slot WR's, teams figured it out and realized he didn't have an NFL arm, but the Bears saw what they could do with the offense if they had a guy that could throw accurate short passes and had the arm to take advantage of downfield opportunities.

You would like to have a back that could both catch the ball and run be able to make that quick upfield cut you need in the outside zone run scheme, can Barkley still do that after all the injuries? Not sure he still has the home run speed he did before the knee injury, but you saw what an above average NFL back did last year in this system.

The Guerendo kid could be an option if he is there in the 4th/5th round, guys like Trey Benson or Bucky Irving would also fit that need, depends on who slides down and what kind of draft capital they are willing to invest in the position with the number of roster holes they need to fill.

Nas and I scouted Bagent at the memorial outing. He missed a lot of throws.

Still wondering if the Bears not getting a deal done for Fields yet (and adding draft capital) forces them to spend more money on filling out the roster rather than grabbing one or two bigger names..

I want them to trade up with the Patriots and get MHJ. I'm not sure how likely that is. If Odunze isn't there, I expect the Bears to trade down with the #9 pick and possibly trade down again with whatever return they get from #9.

What they do early in free agency will give you a great idea of what they'll focus on in the draft. I think they have to take a big swing. Poles has structured these contracts good enough where cap he'll isn't in our future.

Didn't he have the high-performing yet recently terminated Cliff Stein to do contracts? Who does them now? Is she as equally competent?

No, they pushed Stein away in Year 1. Then they fired him this year.

Brian Thomas Jr. and Troy Franklin are two guys that should be there in the mid to late 1st, seems if a QB slips to #9 you could get a decent return by moving back a few slots and still get a guy with the speed and size to play outside.

Mocks are all over, but there have been a few where they trade up a few spots and to get Nabors, who is ranked just behind MHJ on most draft sites, they do need a guy that can stretch the field opposite Moore.

Busting some balls, but let get a bit serious.

Go back and watch the Raiders game, you see a guy running the outside zone offense on time and taking the crossers and check downs you get when the oline gets the d moving laterally, you do not see that with Fields who is slow in his drop and is looking downfield rather than taking easy plays, even when Fields made the read he could not deliver an accurate and on time throw to give the back or WR a chance to get upfield, he almost killed Mooney on a couple air mail throws.

Then go and watch the Seattle version, they ran more stretch plays and looked for Metcalf if the safety hesitated on the stretch fake, Bagent tried to do this against the Saints, but the NFL was on to his lack of arm strength and knew the corner or safety could recover as the ball hung up in the air.

There was a reason the offense looked quicker under Bagent, and slowed under Fields, the rest of the NFL sees how slow Fields is in getting to his landmarks, and how he either misses or passes up on obvious reads, this is why there is not a huge demand for him, the rest of the league sees and under average QB that can run, but not a guy that can run an offense that depends on timely reads and accurate throws, which come to think of it, is almost every offense ever created.

Plenty of work for the next super duper secret FB meeting, but I am sure you guys are breaking down tape of FA DT's to see if the elusive three tech is out there somewhere and tape of the FA centers to see if they have the traits and athletic ability they want for the scheme they are running.

This is why you will likely see a few surprises as Poles has shown that he has different ratings on guys based on how they fit the offensive scheme he obviously likes because he has hired two OC's that run it.

I don't disagree with your point about how Bagent effectively ran the offense. Prior to his bed wetting in the 2nd half, I thought we might have more than a backup with him, even with limited arm strength. With significantly less NFL experience, he still processed quicker and got rid of the ball quickly.

This was the bored's memorial for Regular Reader; everyone was invited. You should have blessed us with your presence.

Current prices on Fields next snap w/team"

Atl +140
Bears +200
Pittsburgh + 285

Price that low on Bears reflects the lack of interest from other rteams

I don't even think Bagent's processing and decision making is necessarily special - it's probably close to the minimum expectation you'd need from a QB in similar offenses. So it just proves how far Fields is from being "special" if he fails to meet minimum expectations for the position.

Bagent is at best a career backup, his lack of arm talent is the reason he was not drafted and will significantly limit him in the NFL, the fact that he was able to avoid sacks by running the offense on time was eye opening and you could see what the offense could do if it had a capable QB.

The problem is that the rest of the NFL saw the same thing and that is why the trade market is so slow for Fields, still have hope that a Ryan Pace type GM will overpay but seeing a lot of 3rd round pick speculation out there about his value.

You can improve arm strength when you're young. We saw Brady do it.

It's an Ian Cunningham guy. He took less to play for the Bears.

This move ensures he can use the fourth round pick in a trade for a backup fullback instead of on a safety.

Cousins is supposed to announce his intentions today.
If he leaves they are supposedly interested in Darnold and Wilson.
It was said that Wilson can be had for a 4th round pick.

No one's trading for Wilson. He's already been cut. It just won't be official until June.
