I don't get it.

A win is a win. Win and advance.

I think Underwood came out and said it; the team was scoring a lot and Dainja was slowing things down, in his opinion. I can't find the quote, but he more or less said it. He also apparently thought that Dainja was a defensive liability who couldn't make switches the way the others players could.

I don't know. He clogs up the middle and can actually score from the inside.

He draws fouls on the other team as well. He has nights where he’s off but last night he was the difference. If I have one issue with him is when you get him the ball down low it’s like a black hole, don’t expect him to kick it back out very often :eye:

Dain being in the game clogs the middle making it difficult for Shannon to drive the lane or Domask back guys down.

Sure, but in most of their losses--and a few of their bad wins--they couldn't get the ball inside whatsoever.

I laughed when I saw the shot chart from last night. Other than the 3 pointers, every field goal made was in the paint.

It was nice to see the Illini actually pull out a close game. Hope they shoot the ball better today, they were fortunate to get through with nothing from Hawkins and Donask.

Good to see Purdue go down. The officials in that game loved the sound of their own whistles, anyone who looked at Edey got a foul. I hope our foul-magnet Shannon gets that kind of love.

Honest question here. Do you guys see Shannon as a second or third team All-American? Is he even worthy of a possible 1st team? I thought that was a stretch.

Whew--good game. A decent win in a season with few of them.

Raftery with an all timer. After commenting about a defensive help stunt, the PBP guy says "You know a little something about defense"

"I read my books"

Championship recipe:

Dainja: more minutes
Goode: less minutes

Tell Underwood.

What are Goode's skills? He can't guard. He can't rebound. He can't score. Why the fuck is he on the floor?

An effectively used dainja is the difference for this team. I agree with Goode not being on the floor so much BUT he is a good extra weapon for limited stretches. He also is a determined and willing rebounder. He just is a revolving door on defense.

Oh yeah, Ty Rodgers too. That guy is 100% energy all the time. I love it when he and dainja are on the floor together. Both of those guys are max effort players.

I was watching a little preview on Morehead State - it sounds like their whole defensive philosophy is not giving up 3-pointers and using very little help defense on the interior. If that is the case, Dainja and Shannon should feast. These games against unknown opponents from small conferences always worry me though, you never really know what to expect.

I had a dream that the Illini lost against a team whose tallest player was 6'6" and Dainja didn't play at all.

A month ago I could see the Dainja not playing part, but I think he has finally cracked into the rotation for good.
