I miss guards passing to centers and skyhooks.

Because of the style of play of that era. His style wouldn't work in this era. He's nowhere near the player Curry Jr is or the two way player Klay was before injuries. That means you are saying Zeke alone was essentially better than Curry and Klay. It's debatable that he was better than Curry.

Curry is the best of the four. Neither Thomas nor Dumars could guard Steph. Assume you’d matchup Dumars on him as he’s the better defender and Thomas is giving away 5 or 6 inches on Klay.

Steph Curry is by far the worst of the 4 defensively and stood no chance guarding Isaiah and only a slightly better chance of guarding Dumars. Unlike this era of basketball where they hide you on non scorers, you really couldn't in the 80's because teams were more balanced. Anyone Steph guards it would be barbecue chicken. Zeke and Dumars routinely guarded elite offensive guys. Curry hasn't. Not then and not now. Smoked turkey!

Zeke was better than Curry. And Dumars was at least Klay's equal. For all of the "new era" "old era" theories Isiah and Dumars could play in any era. Isaiah is a far superior athlete than either Klay or Curry and neither was superior athletically to Dumars. Curry and Klay are better shooters, but if you are talking 2 on 2 basketball you aren't getting screens and stagger screens to get those shots off. You have to be able to put the ball to the deck to beat your defender. And neither Klay nor Curry stand a chance of staying in front of Zeke in his prime.

Who the comp for Dumars today? An undersized shooting guard with a YMCA game. The YMCA is still effective, but not for undersized shooting guards. Also, if Dumars can't hand check, he's a worthless defender. He doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard elite players without fouling by today's standards.

Zeke would be amazing in this enforcerless NBA. His 2's wouldn't be enough to trump the Splash Brothers raining 3's from out of the sky.

Steph Curry is also "an undersized shooting guard" too however. And Joe Dumars has run more point guard in his career than Steph Curry could ever dream of doing.

In a game of 2 on 2 there is no chance that guys who rely heavily on screens to get open would ever stand a chance against 2 dudes that can get it done off the bounce.

There’s no traditional point guard in 2 on 2. You need offense and one side will have no problem getting shots. Steph’s ball handling is the best of the four and Klay can shoot over Thomas/Dumars easily.

Even if you believe Steph is an undersized shooting guard, he doesn't have a YMCA game. His game single handedly changed the NBA. Like a mini Wilt. Who is your modern comp for Dumars?

NBA rules changes "changed" the NBA actually. Modern Comp for Dumars I'd have to think about for a minute. Don't just want to throw a name out there.

But again as far as "modern" vs "ancient" NBA goes I think you're buying into the hype a little Nas. A number of guys that are currently dominating the "modern" NBA are guys with throwback games. Jalen Brunson has a "throwback" game. So does Jayson Tatum too. Deaaron Fox also. Joel Embiid is simply a bigger version of Hakeem. Haliburton also has a throwback game too. So does Anthony Edwards.

Dumars comp today would probably be someone like true holiday or Kyle Lowry even.

Great topic here. So much fun to think back over the years of the great duos.

I am not sure any of the other duos could match Luka and Kyrie in a full team game of 5 on 5.

Now if we are talking about a 2 on 2 matchup to see who would win that would be a helluva battle.

I would be hard pressed to bet against Zeke and Dumars. They would be hard to handle because they would be the most solid combo on both sides of the ball.

Luka/Kyrie and Steph/Klay would have issues defensively. But both teams could score at will. But as the good doctor of style pointed out no one on any of those teams was capable of guarding Zeke in his prime.

Damn I wish we could put all of them in a time machine at their prime and see that 2 on 2 tournament.

Yeah when Reggie Miller broached the subject, it really made me think. I also think that overall Kyrie and Luka would be the best of the group too. I feel like that there are some duos that have been missed too along the way.

I side with the good Doctor on this one. On a playground, give me Zeke and Dumars over Curry and Klay. They advance to face Luka and Kyrie.

No doubt. I am sure there are.

Magic/Norm or Byron was a good one.

Hell, Kobe and a bag of balls. MJ and a bag of balls. Either is going to will their way to some wins in a 2 on 2 game.

Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe

Sleeper Hall Of Fame Duo. Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond.

Steph and Klay might not even be the best G S. Backcourt duo. In a game of 2 on 2, my money would be on Hardaway and Mitch

You guys completely changed the question to a 2 on 2 game - which two short guys would inexplicably win over better/taller players. Nostalgia is a powerful drug…

Start a team, play a game. Which two would you want in their primes?

2 on 2 is the only way to really do it though. When you start talking whose the best this or that, you have to match them up as individuals, duos or teams depending on what the actual topic happens to be. If Steph Curry and Klay need Draymond Green to play defense, set screens or send kickout passes to them in order to be better than Zeke and Dumars, then they really aren't better than Zeke and Dumars are they?

Of the three Reggie Named I'd go
1. Luka/Kyrie (hardly a "nostalgia" choice)
2. Zeke/Dumars
3. Steph/Klay

In a game of 2 on 2.

Two on two, Klay is probably the only guy in this hypothetical who could guard Luka and I very much doubt that Luka could guard a prime Klay.
