No. It wouldn't have. High School and College basketball was huge across the United states. There is no way there was never going to be a pro league. It would have always existed.

Worst-case scenario would have been becoming basic cable fodder like the NHL and NASCAR were at the time. The NHL didn't even get the Stanley Cup Final onto network television until 1995; you watch clips of the Rangers' historic win and it's on the dang MSG Network like it's a February game against Hartford or something.

ESPN showed a longer version of that clip today. She's hilariously crazy. What a great villain. Definitely my favorite player in the league (of the three that I can name)!

That said, I'm not sure how to feel about her fake eyelashes. Why do so many WNBA players seem to wear them? Are these (presumably) biological women deliberately cultivating a drag queen aesthetic?

College sports really do exist independently of the pros. They have become a business, but you could considerably ramp down college exposure to the general public and they would still have interest.
