I agree, not getting additional draft capital speaks to AK's incompetence.

Caruso is a textbook mediocre white guy with a year left on his contract. I'm pretty dubious there was some HAUL of picks the Bulls blew off to trade him for the Giddler.

Honestly speaking, the trade doesn't make much sense from OKC's perspective. They already have a Caruso type in Lu Dort. Their weakness is size. Maybe Presti has something in place to move him or Caruso to get a big.

From the Bulls perspective they need a point. They don't have one on the roster besides Lonzo who may never play again and if he does won't be good. I like the move. Bulls have to get some Bigs themselves. Too Many guards on the roster to be competitive.

He can be an x-factor. I can see a team with playoff ambitions wanting to trade late picks for him. OKC has picks they almost certainly have to trade.

FWIW, Sporting News gave the Bulls a D- and OKC an A+ on the trade.

caruso will be a great coach. i dont think hes as good as the nation thinks. hes like a middleton type of guy. very valuable, can push a good team to victory, but wont take a bad team to the playoffs.

I still think this is a more a re-shuffling than a rebuild. If they don't resign DeMar, then this is a rebuild. I think their top priorities will be trading Zach and resigning DeMar/Patrick Williams. If they get a body back for Zach and draft at #11, they will tell us that they made meaningful changes even though the likely result of all this is more of the same until they tear things down and reset.

KC Johnson thinks this move is a sign they are more likely to take a step back vs. a re-shuffle. If he's right, then DeMar would end up elsewhere. I still would be surprised if they completely tore this down. Johnson says the talk around the league is that Patrick Williams will be back with the Bulls as well. He says trading Zach is their top priority, but it may not be easy with the issues there.....

I really don't think that moving Caruso for a younger player who started for OKC indicates a rebuild. Caruso was a role player here, Giddey will probably start in Chicago with Coby in the backcourt, but the same holes (shooting, size/athleticism) are still there...Just not sure I agree with the instant reaction that the Bulls are suddenly much worse and Giddey may actually help the Bulls with his passing ability.

From an OKC perspective, I think they have some nice role players and very good young talent, but I thought they were also lacking a 2nd scoring option they could depend on next to SGH. With all of their youth and upcoming picks, they will eventually need to cash in on some of that for another elite player, but I think they are content to bring it back and add more veteran types like Caruso.

What happens with DeMar will definitely be the main sign as to what their intentions are- rebuild or shuffle the chairs.

I have a hard time believing the 15 offers out for Zach. There was basically no interest back at the trade deadline and now all of that has changed?

Doubtful.

DeMar will be interesting. I am curious as to what his market is. His game is old-school, he'd have to fit into a already good team, probably meaning a step back which makes sense at his age, but he's still a good player. Would he take a 2 year deal elsewhere? Would it take 3 years for him to remain in Chicago? Not sure if he would end up with a team like the Clippers, Lakers, or Philly, veteran teams vs. young teams, but I think he would have a somewhat tight market. He also seemed happy in Chicago, but money talks.

Philadelphia has a shit ton of money to spend. Embiid and Maxey are literally the only two guys on their roster. Maxey’s going to sign a big extension this summer but that won’t kick in until the ‘25-‘26 season. Now that Paul George doesn’t seem like he’s going to Philadelphia, maybe they give a big check to DeRozan. I’d love to see him off the Bulls books and on a championship contender.

Agreed on Zach. It seems like the Bulls are making most of the calls and he would be a fallback option for most teams.

The only hopes I can see is that a team like Detroit who have tons of cap space would take him on or Sacramento, which has liked him in the past, would take a shot if their roster has some shuffling. Maybe there's a team with interest now that didn't previously (maybe Orlando?), but the Bulls have a horrible contract and almost no market for him.

Philly makes some sense, the LA teams could also. On these teams though, he's probably a 3rd option most nights. Maybe he's ok with that and can still get enough shots on a winning team on a 2 year deal.

I disagree with this and I'm a huge Caruso fan. Josh Giddey is much better offensively and a better fit at this point than Caruso. The Bulls have about 3 guys (Ayo, Carter, Terry) that all do similar things to what Caruso does. They have no one that does what Giddey does.

I don't know what he does in his sex life and unless you're in the room with him, I doubt neither do you.

Yeah he can't but he gets to the bucket well. He's also 6'8 and glasses well for a guard and is a helluva passer.

Speaking of shooting - is Dalton Knecht from Tennessee a legit player or is he Doug McDermott II?
Bump.

Nah he can play and fills a need. AK must have been tired of seeing 2 guards and small forwards trying to initiate offense Good for him. And nothing on this team will improve until they whack the coach whom you like so much after the season anyway.

I think The Athletic reported that the Kings offered pick #13 for Caruso.

If they are being offered 1st round picks in this class and it's considered one of the worst drafts in awhile, although it's still very odd that the Bulls couldn't land a future draft pick from OKC considering they have a few dozen of them...Giddey actually makes some sense with his PG ability even if he's coming off a regression season and also a decision on his next contract....

At the trade deadline, if they were offered 2 1st round picks, one of them would have been in the 20's, maybe closer to 30 and next year's (assuming one in 2025) would have also likely been in the 2nd half of the round don't sound nearly as attractive as it sounds at first reaction.

Currently, at #11, have to think they either go with a big or an athletic wing type.

I just posted in another thread, but the latest Mock Draft from The Athletic has The Bulls taking Zach Edey, FWIW.
